It's come to my attention I have got these crazy mad habits of checking instagram or facebook for literally no reason whatsoever. After watching the Social Dilemma on Netflix...I've come to terms with these platforms are not healthy for me one bit....I'm not going to lie, I have deactivated accounts many times in the past but maybe-maximum 2 days later I'd be back in the loop again because everybody else is. As I'm getting older I'm thinking...no I can go this. Go off grid and see how this effects friendships and the time in my day.

Has anyone else gone through these sort of thoughts, or gone completely off grid?

Precisely why I deactivated two of my personal social media accounts last week.

Finally realized the hour a day I'd spend checking these platforms is an utter waste of time better spent either working or sleeping. On top of that, I grew tired of seeing the same "this is what I'm having for dinner" or "here's my babies haircut today" posts, can only take so much of that.

sad to say, since my industry pretty much relies on the social media platform. I am just about to give up on it.

Been deactivated for more than a year now and it's a hell of a difference.
A point they didn't touch in the social dilemma is not only does it affect people's opinions and decisions, but how easily it changes your mood was what triggered me to get rid of it. Like, why do I need to know everyone's shitty take on a trending subject? Why do I need to know every bad thing happening around the world? A simple 1 minute scroll on facebook could let me realize there is one random guy who abused a poisoned a stray dog or that there was some explosion in another city or that there are people being vacated from their homes without notice.

How are we supposed to consume all of this information? How are we even supposed to feel about this? Don't underestimate how a single post can affect your day.

If you don't need social media for hookups, then go off the grid! I tried it and is way much better.

I'm not yet off of that but I deactivated all push notifications and I just check a couple of times each day, by the I also getting tired of social media shit, but TikTok still good for entertainment... See hot girls is very addictive by the way :D :D :D

All i did on instagram was just scroll cat video reels, this was fun but it never lasted long before my attention was taken away to another negative thing.

How did you take it in the beginning....it's really bad but I think this possibly worse than a drug addiction. Even now when I've finished what I'm doing my brain automatically wants to type face...I reckon this is going to be a tough couple of weeks to get used to and actually keep off these platforms and focus on work. I think some friends are going to think I'm dead as I've deleted whatsapp also. I just want to go back to the old days when people actually rang you or came and knocked on your door.

I've never had any social media except facebook, though I have throwaway ig and twitter accounts for work related stuff.

I'd only open personal accounts if it was to further myself as a public figure or influencer, and even then I wouldn't scroll news feeds, I'd just post content and descriptions with links to what I'm doing. At the end of the day, I firmly believe social media was imagined as a platform for people to just post brief updates about their lifestyle and interests, for others to equally briefly glance over it and go on with their day. Spending any more time than that is already abuse of the concept that wrecks your time and mental state, imo.

Sounds like an impactful movie. I'm gonna check it out. I don't check social media much to see what people are doing since I don't really care but more for meme accounts. Still may be a waste of time. Will watch the movie and see what I can learn.

I'm off the social media grid. I already have enough troubles without adding more stress and worry from social media.
Another bad one is dating apps, so many crazies on those too.

Deactivating is not necessary if you can control yourself.
I might be on alot of social media but i only frequent those which help me.
Like blackhatworld.
Don't ditch social media use it to your advantage not the other way.

The best thing i can recommend and you can easily do is disabled notification for all social media apps you use. That's the first step

I don't have any personal social media account. I am thinking its totally waste of time and bring you only trouble.

When i get some time, i read books ( online books). online news paper and watch Movie and BHW post

It won't be so difficult if you replace it with something instead of just leaving a big gap. Maybe try reddit because you can tailor your feed to your liking at least.

I deleted fb + insta + whatsapp 3 weeks ago.

It was not that hard...

Do not deactivate. Deactivation allows u to activate later. Just delete the profile.

I would also rechommend slowly replacing the social media habits with reading/listening books.

my Facebook got blocked last month

i used to scroll through facebook a lot I wasted so much time than I realized
now productivity couldn't be higher

I had a strong suspicion after reading the title that "The Social Dilemma" was going to be mentioned!

I have not finished it yet, I'm about a half hour in. So far it seems to be laying a lot of groundwork. Nothing I have seen surprises me yet. If you follow Snowden at all then you understand the concept of metadata and how revealing and powerful it is to predict people's behavior. I think the other members that have touched on self-control are lukewarm, but the essence of the struggle is that psychologic design factor. Social media services and notification systems were deliberately designed to make us addicted to checking it. That's just wild!!

I know there are some blackhatters here that try to exploit human psychology to drive conversions. It's a great strategy. It must be great if FAANG are doing it. ;)

I thought I deleted my personal FB account but looks like FB loves me as no matter what I do, it keeps popping up my personal one!
FB and IG drive me NUT! I don’t get it why some people talk about how much they love their significant other on FB or IG!! What’s the heck!! Love them or hate them who cares? Why should everyone following you know about your fabulous wife and how much you love her blah blah ..
It’s not easy to quite when you are in a business that depends on social media.

Please don't go away... Social media is part and parcel of your lifestyle.

You need not to check it all the time ya, I have gone thru that addiction and the one thing I did was just ignore it, not deleting any account.

As of now, I m pretty addicted to BHW :D

2years back i realize that and quit every social media except skype...social media is just a suck of time so batter to take a long leave.
bhw is far batter than all social media that exist on the planet, where you can learn and do fun ;)
