ask any street Walker yaha se wahan(place u wanna go) kitna lagta?

For Example : Bhaiya(bro) yaha se kurla/bandra/churchgate/etc kitna lagta ?
he will say dass(10),bees(20), pachaas(50), sau(100), do sau (200),pan sau(500) etc

As you don't know the rates autowalas may try to fool you ,so ask before from local person and then bargain from autowala to save money:)

so goto autowala and ask

you: kurla ka kitna loge (how much for kurla?)
autowala : do sau lagega (200RS)
you:itna nahi lagta (this isn't the true rate),main sau dunga (i will give only 100rs/or anything what local person told you)
autowala:chalo ded sau de dena(ok leave it give me 150)
you:na meri na tumhari ek sau bees(neither mine nor yours 120 ok) ,(don't try to be hard 10-25 difference may occur for long route so be reasonable and logical),show your gums to him:D
autowala :theek hai baitho(ok sit)

Besides, UK is the Indian food center of the world. Try Tooting, South London, or the place where the Balti was invented = Birmingham. You can stay right at home and get your culinary kicks.
 
Seems like I got censored for suggesting that Indian cities are anything else than an optimum of cleanliness. Forgive me. I now understand that you are a veritable Switzerland of civic tidiness. Let me reiterate that I have spent more than a year there. I do love the place.

there is Jazz By The Bay on the Marine Drive
go in have a couple of beers (thats my personal limit at one go - so feel free to have more :D). then cross the road... sit on drive facing the sea

repeat loop.

I really enjoy doing this every time out there. the sea has a real soothing effect and gives quality time to spend with yourself and think hard!
 
Man the food, so yummy... oh my god... just thinking about it makes my mouth water.
 
it will take few days to getting used to things .if you need help just ask anyone even a person on the road they will help you out with anything .many places to see foood to eat .some places may be dirty and not upto the mark of other cities but thats ok as it will make up in other departments.once you are used to the place you will love it:)
 
hey man, I was working for a startup in New Delhi for about a year two years back but spent a week travelling through Mumbai before I came back home to Atlanta...i loved india...what alot of foreigners do is get a copy of Lonely Planet to guide them through the city and they'll tell you some of the more common tourist attractions, good places to eat, and fun places to socialize..its usually cool to run across other travelers...i'd recommend you try to make contact with some of the expats too before you get there and they could be real receptive to you (there's a particular group called AIESEC that i'm apart of that has a strong community), unless you of course prefer to mix with more of the locals
 
bring your own mineral water.... consume food only in hotels or established joints... strictly no food from the roadside stores.. never ever... if u wan to made it back to your homeland...
 
I am from Mumbai but I currently don't live in India.

3 things you should not miss while in Mumbai.

1) Pav Bhaji on Chowpatty Beach

2) Watching a movie in Eros or Regal Theater. These are single screen theater which can be fun if there is a Hit Bollywood movie playing. People dancing in the movie hall, whisteling etc etc

4) A ride to the Elephant Island. The island is okay but the ride is beautiful indeed in the boat which will take around 40 mins or so.

Rest you will manage somehow. Just a small advice is to stay somewhere in Colaba so you can see most of the things by walking around. No need of Taxi
 
When you will be in mumbai? I will be in india starting from 17.02 :)

Wow, guys! Thanks a lot for all the tips. I have read them all.
I've been considering going to Bangalore instead of Mumbai. The so called "Silicon Valley of India". What do you think of it? I will be looking for developers.

@prateekm: I don't wanna stay at a hotel. I will rent a furnished apartment. I'm going for at least two months but, if I like it there and I find the people I'm looking for, I'll stay at least a year.
@knoxgate: Well, I'm considering Bangalore atm. I'm not sure. I've been checking prices, the weather, etc. It is a 90 mins. fly from Mumbai (and just $45), so even if I have to travel it's not that terrible. Can you give me your opinion on:
1.- The difference in prices of living
2.- The difference in prices of hiring two developers and a small office
3.- The FUN

1) Don't eat outside on open stores you might eat something unhygienic.
2) Always carry a map.
3) Don't wander alone at night.
4) Always check the meter to be zero and ask the auto or taxi about the amount he will charges, usually they will go by meter.
5) Always drink packaged water. Clean drinking water is must(Use bisleri).
6) Carry Mosquito repellents a Kenyan cricket player died of Malaria.
7) Wear clothes so can mix in the crowd if they find you are not an Indian they will usually charge you more for any item you buy.
8) Learn some hindi sentences.
9) Always keep track of your belongings, or someone will snatch it.
10) [most important] message me if you wish to open a startup I am in New Delhi, I have a office space and complete setup just looking for clients.
 
I stay in South Mumbai... If you want to meet up then just let me know..
If you are going to stay in an hotel in South Mumbai then you don't need to worry about food. You'll have a lot of options. If you don't like one place or a restaurant then you can find another one and everything is nearby...
Tell me you hotel name and location and I'll give you the names of good restaurants and places nearby your hotel...

How are the Mumbai's Eastern suburbs? I mean, transportation, security, etc. What would be the diferences compared to South Mumbai?

Maybe I should just go to Mumbai and visit Bangalore to see what's up there. For my startup, I just need good people. And for my life... culture, delicious food sold on the street (I'm sorry, I ALWAYS eat there when I travel. It's the best food) and people to meet.
