No penalties have been decided yet, just proposed changes from US justice, I think.

Many commentators and reporters think it's unlikely, though, and maybe it'll only be some business changes.

What do you think? Should google be broken up?

They done this many times already
they will usually just sell a division or shut down a product to keep it under the %
 
I guess they will just move out of US if it gets to expensive to run their business, but it will be interesting to follow since the other giants are in for it in the next run if Google lose this one.

If a breakup would make things easier and more straightforward for us marketers, then I'm all for it. If it won't, I'll still support a breakup, that way the power is a bit more decentralized.

they can't punish them hard, they just get a little angry then punish them for monopoly and put some restrictions but allow them to continue being on top because better a USA company having global reach that any other country besides USA that is forbiden, is just a smoke screen but nothing will change and if there is a change is so minimal that will be unnotice by 99% of the people.
 
Remember how they made a big show about going after Facebook but ultimately didn't do much to hurt the company?
 
This would certainly be interesting to see.

Unfortunately, I got a feeling SEOs would ultimately suffer the most as usual because they would have to compensate hard, transforming search into who knows what.

It's hard to say. Sometimes things don't go the way the public thinks they should.
 
Don't forget that all of these huge US global corporations are protected by the US gov. They are too big and too useful to be truly damaged by any governmental actions.

A monopoly breakup is not meant to hurt a company.... it's a forced restructure so in the cracks of the monopoly breakup new competitors can be born.
