Has everyone else noticed that IG no longer lets you return to your feed where you last left it?

Instead it reloads you back to the top of your feed.

Example 1:

* I open the app, scroll down my feed for 5 mins.
* Receive a text message.
* Leave app to reply to text message. (10 seconds away from IG)
* Straight back on IG and IG takes you back to the top of your feed.
* I can't be bothered to scroll down 5 mins to get back to where I was so I close the app.

Example 2:

* I randomly browse Instagram looking at accounts
* Find a cool account I don't follow yet
* Receive an email.
* Leave app to reply to email. (10 seconds away from IG)
* Straight back on IG and IG takes you back to the top of your feed!!!
* That cool new account you was looking at that you can't quite remember the name of (or how you found it) is lost forever...

If you think the non chronological feed or any of the many new 'algorithms' fucked up your engagement THIS is gonna take the biscuit...

just going to have to deal with it. instagram is just too big.
im still pissed about the fucked engagement and non chronological order, though.

I agree and we'll battle on.

But I do think this is a significant change.

If it can help : My iPhone 5s reloads me to the top of the feed but not my iPhone 6s...

Thanks for the tip. Are they both on the latest app version?

The thing is this isn't a bug which means it's a feature which is coming sooner or later to us all...

Let me guess, iPhone?
I have this problem on my iPhone 6, not on iPhone 7. My friend has it on his iPhone 5S and I remember I also had it way back when I myself had iPhone 5S and even iPhone 4.
It has nothing to do with an app, iPhone just has not enough RAM I believe or something like that. Take it easy!

it has nothing to do with what brand phone you have, its rolling updates some people get it earlier than others.

I will not argue about it with you. I wrote what I know for sure, I never had Android phone and I don't know if they have this problem. Maybe it has something to so with an app optimization.

Definitely not a a issue.

I have an iPhone 7 Plus. The phone is a monster but it still reloads if I leave the app for even a second. It's definitely an app feature.

It's definitively a new feature. Just feels like such a backward thing to do from a user experience point of view.

But IG dont care about our user experience its all about ad revenue and refreshing the feed constantly will help this $$$$.

Just surprised how little reaction I've had about this on BHW. This is really gonna fuck things up...

How can it be newif I experienced it about 2 years ago?

This actually irritated me earlier today as a user because I saw a post on the feed but lost it. Oh well my accounts will keep growing.

One question tho, is the "top of your feed" is the first thing you are greeted with each time you open IG app for the first time? (not when you switch apps, but actually when you just open it).

I'm not an IG regular btw.

you mean instagram stories? yes, they will be there every time you open the app

That's it. It's not an IG algo bug but rather than a an IG app bug, the fault of whoever designed it, or it could be some devices' limitation.
The app was unable to keep its state when you switch the processes, and thus acted as it was "first opened".

That's common across many apps/games and devices. It could be also caused by third-party apps or tweaks on rooted androids or jailbroken iOS's.

It bugs me as a user too!

I am actually using IG less because of it.

We'll battle on but I think this will effect us all. Its bound to...
