Ideal Customer Profile

start by identifying who gets the most value from your product or service. look at their industry, company size, budget, goals, and biggest problems. then define what they are trying to achieve and why they would choose your solution over alternatives. talking to real customers or prospects is usually the fastest way to refine an ICP.

but i keep it simple at first and update it as I learn more from actual customer behavior.

I didn't even know this is a thing until I googled it :D

Anyway, here's a guide I found, hopefully it helps:

Do you have a note where you record the updated details of your ICP? Or you just do the adjustment in your head ?

How do you create an Ideal Customer Profile (ICP) for a new business?
A good ICP is based on who is most likely to benefit and become a long term customer.

when embarking on a business endeavor, I first start from the problem side rather than customers side. I try to identify someone who face such a prblem and is capable of addresing it. Under this strategy, my ICP is more accurate compared to demographic segmenttion alone.

I think understanding the target audience comes first i aminterested to hear how others define their ICP when there's very little customer data available in the early stages

This would normally be a task for a consulting company doing this for large type of businesses.

Today, one could get a solid glimpse or research done depending on whether there's public data available for one's business.

If you'd describe who you are, what your product does and aims for in a very great detail, you should be able to pull some relatively useful data from the AI service that you prefer.
Don't forget to apply your own common sense of course.

but in my case, the ideal ICP is one that is developed through real interaction with the customer , not just assumption about them. It can be identified by initial reaction, sale call nd the behavior of the user.

Start by identifying the customers who benefit most from your product or service their industry company size goals pain points budget and buying behavior
