I was offered 15k for a domain, Need Advice

As the title says. I was offered 15k for a domain recently. Before the economy nightmare hit I was offered 20k for the domain and I held out for 30k and just decided to keep it. Now I'm really considering selling it.

It's a .com for a very nice and marketable name. There are fairly big companies with the other variations of the domain. .org, .co.uk etc.. I currently have a PR5 blog on it that I could easily move the content to another domain and just start over. The site doesn't make me much money as is.

Things I have considered are a Sedo auction or a Flippa auction. Flippa seems to do better with sales of complete sites that are generating income. Does anyone have some good advice for maximizing the money made off of a sale like this?

My advice will be setup a new site with old content. Redirect this site to new site for time being, so that you won't loose any of your old loyal visitor.
Then after sometime sell out this domain.
 
I would post it up with a high reserve myself, like $30k, on Flippa and see if you can gauge what kind of real offers are available out there. You could also contact the other companies who own variations of the site and see if they want the .com version for a premium.

Do you think a premium listing on Flippa would be worth it? Seeing that I would only list it as a domain sale.
 
Try contacting meathead here on the forum. That is his specialty.

He could give you the best advice or maybe even some assistance in selling your domain.

15k is damn sick. Sell it if you feel the buyer is genuine.

I think for the amount of money you are dealing with, its worth an investment IF you truly believe your domain is worth that much.
 
I think I can get more than 15k honestly. I just need to go about it right. I sent meathead1234 a PM.
 
Sell it right away. Because it's not in the domain, it's in the marketing...
 
Sell it for as much as you can, then re-invest part of the money to a new site.
 
Don't go with flippa or any other domain selling site... If the person wants to buy it and they upright offered you 15k, tell them you are thinking more like 30k. They will counter at 20k and you can tell them final offer at 25k. Now you just bind with them with a contract, get payment and then file to xfer the site to them. You should use a escrow to receive the money as you will then know that the money is secure. If you go with a site like flippa, you are going to pay a heafty fee to sell the domain, stay away from the middle man!
 
I would definitely sell it for 15k regardless of the domain name, unless it was something like beer.com. (Of course I'd check if anyone were willing to pay more first though.)

It is a site but the value is really in the domain name.

If you put it up for High Reserve and spend the $100 or whatever on the listing, and list it for MUCH more then you would feel comfortable countering the other guy with, then you can get an idea of what other people might be willing to spend on it. If you get no bids higher then 15k, then it would probably be best to continue negotiating with the person who offered originally. If the bids go above 15k, then you can invite the original person who offered to make a counter bid etc.

I think its worth the money to put it in the public for offers to see what could possibly happen. You may also get other people who message you through your whois info to try to negotiate privately.

Just because you post the domain on Flippa, doesn't mean you HAVE to sell through flippa. And if Flippa gets you can extra $10k+, then its worth paying the commission.
 
I told the company I was going to auction the domain starting at 17k unless they were interested in paying that. They replied with "If you could let me know what the Auction URL is once it's live we will consider participating." I think they are interested in that number even. I'm trying to tug that line just a little to see how big this fish is.
 
I think the best idea in this forum is to contact the .co.uk and other variations business owners and offer it to them, see what they put on the table :). Contact each one of them, then make them bid against each other.
