I don't know what the hell I did and how I did that. I wanted to make a new fresh WP installation using. I saw that I have one unused subdomain, and I said to myself, okay use this one then. But I couldn't remember how I have that subdomain? After the installation, I went to visit my website and guess what the F happened?

MY WEBSITE WAS DELETED/OVERWRITTEN WITH NEW INSTALLATION!

That wouldn't be a big deal if that was some random website, but my BST website! Okay, I started panicking, let me try revert a backup from yesterday, even I am going to lose all things I made today. And AGAIN it's not working. I am getting error 403.

Now I don't have the will anymore to handle things thing by myself, I contacted A2 live chat support to help me, and this guy Johnny was like we have a server rewind option, use that and he sends me a link. Okay, let me check that, and again it's not working, 403 problems.

I asked the guy if he can help me, he said he can but he wants to clarify he isn't a web designer. Okay dude, you are support, I get that and I need your help, I don't need you to design my website. After a while he said he said he made it work, I checked and I lost my data for past 4 days, okay no problem. He said if you want to revert another day you may do it by yourself but you will need to handle permission fix by yourself.

I was like okay, explain to me...

Please just see the conversation here, I couldn't believe my eyes:

Correct? Is he playing with me or what? This never happened to me in my life!

Is the problem in me or what?

I think I am going to look for another hosting provider with better support, and I know some guys were saying here that Namecheap support is bad, but ever time I asked them to fix something for me they did that without saying any word or asking me to say something with their words...

Luckily, I only lost pages I made today, but I will revert them easily.

Glad you got it sorted. I remember when I learned the hard way how important it is to have off-site backups. Make sure you get backups configured for your website, and run them daily.

This is why I only use AWS and Azure and not some random amateur hosting crap.

Phew man, that sucks big time!

Glad you got it back and for real I can only imagine what was going through your mind.

Damn...

I cant even imagine the insane sinking feeling you must have got....

I wish I can explain that... like a bad dream.

Yep. I will make sure in the future to have them daily, but first I will find another hosting provider. I don't want to pay and to be F in the head.

We have over 40 sites hosted with WPX and their support is excellent.

Thanks, I will check them now.

Frustrating :/

Well hang on, it seems like you triggered the error here, not the hosting provider :) But you should always have copies of your data. If it's on their servers, you don't have it, they do, and that can be a real problem.

I hade my own backup from yesterday on the server and on my laptop. I tried to revert that backup from server - not working, tried to revert backup from local - again not working. He didn't want to explain to me what was the cause of that problem, because that never happened to me. I know how to revert backup. Even if nothing works I can delete everything and upload again DB and other files, but that even didn't work.

I am really not sure why he spoke with me this way.

I haven't checked but did EIG buyout A2?

Is that the problem?

Either way, that attitude and lack of customer service is HORRENDOUS!

He's likely working from home, is underpaid and doesn't give a flip if A2 fires him or not.

But, just so you know, A2 started egregiously over selling back in 2016, since then - they are OK for your testing sites, BUT NOT FOR YOUR MONEY SITES!!!!

I also would not use them for my PBNs.

Error 403 is a forbidden error. After you revert the latest backup, you should go back to your cpanel and check permissions. If the files/folders permission is set to 600, you need to change it to 755 or 644 and everything will start working.

ps. Do this at your own risk :P im not responsible if things go wrong again :P

Been a Namecheap customer for more than 3 years. One of their Hosting Support team called dimetry (or so, can't remember) always comes to my rescue when I mess up with my website. Their support I would say AAA+++ atleast for me

Thank you but I am not going to play with this anymore, at least not on this hosting. xD

I can confirm that! They are very responsive and polite.

Sorry, Namecheap! :)

DULY NOTE; sometimes certain hosts will (for whatever reason) block access VIA .htaccess. It's a common tactic of EIG, when they are attempting to force you to upgrade.

If you are getting a 403 error, the .htaccess file would be the 1st place I would check. The 2nd place would be files/folder permissions.

I didn't know that, thank you for letting me know. Now I am going to change my hosting, that's for sure.

No problem!

Honestly, the hosting market has changed DRAMATICALLY... FOR THE WORSE!

You have companies like EIG, Hostwinds, and the such - buying the client bases of smaller hosting companies, and then flipping them over to their oversold servers.

These companies hire tech support people who are unskilled at tech support.

Their tech support is comprised mostly of Tier1 support, and some T2. As quiet as it's kept, these companies RARELY have T3 support personnel, because they are unwilling to pay competitive salaries.

IMHO, this is a great time to start TRUE VALUE hosting companies.

Don't kill yourself for small problems in your life. We love you . Find an alternative so you don't feel like killing yourself .
