it is a preference thing ,
I grew up watching the most disturbing , weirding anime growing up when I was living in Europe .
There was something nostalgic and weird about those rare anime . I used to see the oldest and cheapest anime's that came out in the 70's and 80's .
They had a spiritual element to them . I remember , I never liked those robot/mechanical anime's , I don't know why ! ,
I always liked the spiritual type of anime that had to deal with the development of character .

The anime's I am talking about are so rare, that you will only find one page about them on google ! .

i recomend you watch aku no hana

Even if I love Naruto you should start by watching shorter animes like My Hero Academia !
 
I´d rather go 10 times with FMAB which is more according to manga.
And when it comes to recommend anime, it depends on your time,

6. Mirai Nikki
7. Elfen Lied
8. Cowboy Bebop

this is my top ten as a anime fan, but I´ll never end if I told you every anime you should watch, bc most of them are awesome lol
anyways, just try to start with the short ones and then continue with the other ones, I might think the goal of every anime lover is to watch One Piece complete lol

You should try Food wars, foodgasm is off the chart. If you can survive first few episodes, you will binge watch it.
