I need some advice from people who have been doing client SEO for a while.

One of my clients keeps asking me why traffic is going up but actual enquiries aren't moving much.

The annoying part is that the rankings are improving, impressions are up, and some keywords have moved quite nicely.

But the client only cares about leads, which is fair.

I’m trying to figure out whether I should focus more on:

better landing pages
higher-intent keywords
conversion optimization
or just give the SEO campaign more time.

How do you guys normally diagnose this?

Would you look at the keywords first, the landing pages, or the traffic source?

I feel like I’m probably missing something obvious here, so curious how other people handle this with clients.

Check which keywords are actually driving the traffic increase first rising impressions from informational keywords that never convert looks great in a report but does nothing for leads.

If you are having traffic without much converts, it can be one or all of these

1. Your keywords are not for shopping/buying purposes. They are mostly informatic.

2. There isn't a clean pricing section and support for clients to ask their questions asap. You can add WhatsApp for better conversation or anything that's popular in that country.

3. Pricing is one of the most important things in 2026 with this inflation. People are looking for the cheapest option nowadays

4. Landing page should start with important informations then you can open it more with extra text. Using a real human video (not AI) can bring much more trust so they see who are you actually!

At the end, put yourself in users pants and check if that site is having a good price and trust score or not? People (specially Gen Z) are getting smarter so don't use old tricks

Pull GSC data and check the exact queries bringing in the new traffic. 90% of the time this happens, you're ranking for top-of-funnel informational terms instead of buyer intent keywords.

If it's blog traffic, add clear CTAs pointing to your service pages. If it's already landing on money pages, check mobile UX half the time the contact form or phone link is broken on phones.

He is dumb then, tell him to check his/her competitors and rethink! pricing is not something to ignore lol

This represents a classic disconnect in client SEO. Traffic is being driven successfully, yet if it fails to convert into revenue, the client perceives the effort as ineffective.

I would pull up Search Console and GA4 first to see which exact queries and landing pages gained traffic, then check conversion rates page by page instead of just looking at total inquiries. A lot of times the growth is purely informational, so you need clear internal pathways to your service pages while adding more commercial intent keywords to the strategy. If the traffic is actually landing on your service pages, focus on cleaning up mobile friction on the offer rather than waiting for rankings to do the work. Test your forms, phone tracking, and CRM webhooks before changing anything else, because broken attribution is often the real reason numbers look flat.

Below points will help you:
  1. Open search console and check on which keywords the website is getting traffic.
  2. Check if competitors are offering better price
  3. Install Microsoft clarity and check the user flow
  4. Check the brands review. If there are limited, then make some review guest posts on trusted website.
  5. Check trustpilot reviews and reply appropriately.
I hope these points will help you somehow in finding what is wrong with the website or with the user intent.

I think U should focus ON CTA , it is most underestiamte thing in SEO ,
it help u a lot in relizing the traffic that u already have

I've had this happen, and in my experience more traffic doesn't necessarily mean more leads. I'd look at the query intent and conversion path before assuming the SEO campaign needs more time — you can have plenty of informational traffic while barely reaching people who are ready to contact the business. I'd compare landing-page conversion rates by keyword/query group in GA4 or Search Console, then check whether the pages ranking for the high-intent terms actually make the next step obvious. Do you know if the extra traffic is coming mostly from informational keywords or from searches with clear commercial intent?

I would check the keywords first. More traffic doesn't always mean better traffic. You could be ranking for keywords that bring visitors who are just looking for information, not ready to contact or buy. After that I'd check the landing pages and see if there's anything stopping people from making an enquiry.
