The minimum wage for online workers is not limited to the country.
Once you have the:
- skills
- pc
- network connection
The only way to retain a worker at the rates described is to hold them back / prevent them acquiring the 3 elements listed above.
As soon as they acquire those, they will be off to freelancer.com, odesk etc.... unless you pay them more money.
The krux of it is, whether you want to keep re-training people that move on, or pay a better rate to retain someone good for the long term.
I started out paying low rates and got fed up of being messed around, and started to pay better rates.

I'm from India too and it's pretty easy to find good employees for $10 per 8 hours day, excellent ones at $15 a day. Earning 200-300 USD a month is a great pay out here and there can be be no doubts in that.
As long as you can treat your guys well and provide them a great atmosphere to work, no one would fight you saying its slavery etc. It's just some people are gifted neck above to think , while others are gifted neck below.
OP you can get a ton of manual link building done too. That's what I get my employees to do. An efficient employee must be able to build say 40-60 links a day. You make more money that way, while something like scrapebox can keep running in the background.
However, Internet marketing is quite lucrative and he would realize that within some time. So you can't expect people to hang around unless the pay is is a little higher.

Yeah, I think you should pay him more. Why? Because he spents a lot of money on his electricity & internet bill if he keeps his computer on for 8 hours everyday...

This may indeed be, though when speaking of "minimum wage," I think everyone was referring to the legal limit for pay.
I know Americans who also tend to underpay for the position and churn through employees. Just the way it is with some, but that doesn't mean it's exploitation, either.

Yeah, except he's providing the worker with the computer and the electricity in his own facility so this is an invalid point.
$5 a day is a good decent starting salary for some part of the world. Where I live this is a very good starting salary and the supply of the workers are endless. With over 180 millions of population and growing, the supply is endless. So when this worker learns all the trades and starts of his own , we will still have plenty more to mess with.
And the best part is these workers will be happy to work with us.

It does give them a lifestyle, in many cases, that they appreciate, though. Just like pay is relative from country to country, lifestyle and economic demographics are as well.
In one area, if you drive a Ford, you're on the poorer end of the totem pole. In another area, if you have two chickens, you're upper class.

She had been rewriting 10 articles for me a day back then.
I miss her.

Slaves, by definition, work for no pay and are indentured (that is, they are not permitted to stop working). This doesn't really sound like that to me.

in countries like that, you get people for monthly wages of around $100-$150. thats way these countries are! you just can't help it
The average annual salary in Sri Lanka is $2400 and that's for someone that has experience and some type of professional education, the average annual salary in the US is about $35,000 so if he's paying him $5 a day he's earning the normal salary for his country

Raise his fee/s if you're already profiting from the hard labor.. don't take advantage of the needy. $5.00/8hrs work won't pay enough for electricity and internet connection. Believe me, giving back will reward you ten folds.
I better hire 13people for $5/8hour pay Then one ONLY person from US while still paying the same $
