I am alcoholic how do I leave it?

Funny to read reactions like "just stop", you people every heard f withdraw?

It is not easy and depending how bad your addiction is you need medical help.

I've stopped many times but always fell back into old habits especially when i hang out with certain people and i fucked up A LOT of relationships.

Doing better now and not getting totally wasted anymore and again quitting as im fed up with the hangover and the insomnia but falling in withdraw which is fucked up but will just have to go through it.

The guilt I personally felt after "posting under the influence", was as I still remember crushing. I'd feel like a wanker for weeks on end, beating myself up about it.

Been a problem on Facebook for a while (or at least that's what people were led to believe back in the day) ;)

agree thats hell i have had withdraws from all types of drugs but finishd 11 years ago to be more exact in feb 2017 its 11 years :) i have went to AA and NA meetings but only in the beggining when i was weakest...now im doing good, and for u guys who say its only to quit...hey wake up its not easy when u r in the shit....its a personal hell and the withdraw is horrible to different from different drugs in time but all are hell, some worse then others but nothing is easy...

Yeah, I heard of withdrawal issues and when I told a medical doctor I was just going to stop he offered to put me on some medication to make it easier.

I didn't think it made any sense to replace one drug with another and declined.

I was a 8 - 10 Vodka/Grapefruit drink a day guy at that time for years.

It was uncomfortable for a bit but I manned up, dealt with the issues and followed through with my choices.

I was a bottle of whiskey a day guy and then switched to vodka as the whiskey had to many sugars.
Withdraws are depending on times drinking and person, but for me it usually goes with sweating a couple days, headache, getting anxious and agitated real fast, elevated hr and insomnia.

Smoking weed helps though lol
 
Everyone is different.. there is no "one right answer". It's a disease and a fucking nasty one at that... it will turn people against the very people that want to help them, it's a very selfish disease.. and from what I've seen in my personal life with family members.. it's not an easy task to kick it. I come from a long line of heavy drinkers, we're Irish.. shit is in our blood, I've seen it get a hold of people and destroy them and I've seen people turn it around too.. but it's not easy. Thankfully I can take it or leave it.. I prefer to indulge in the herb when I want to take the edge off.

@BreaknBrix said earlier in the thread something along the lines of "a person needs to hit rock bottom before they will really want to change", this is sadly a fact.. and rock bottom can get very deep.

Seek professional help would be my advice OP..

I hope you're not trying to test the resolve of our BHW AA Group with that cocktail!

AA did not work for me as the ones I went to (I tried 3 different groups) they did nothing but complain, smoke cigarettes and drink coffee.

I knew I just had to grow a pair and step up.
 
I drank pretty heavily (binge drinker) up till about 4 or 5 years ago. One day I got really hammered, had a bad time of it and realized that alcohol wasn't what I thought it was. Woke up the next day and never thought about drinking again. Never an urge not for a moment. It was instantly a non issue even still being around family and friends that still drank. I imagine it doesn't work so well for most but I figured it was really about changing myself from the inside rather than altering my external behavior. Sort of a self hypnosis.
 
I should also note I started drinking around 10 years old. My first sip of beer was steering my dad's van down the highway. I worked with him in construction during summers off from school growing up and the only beverage supplied at times was Budweiser. Man how I wished I had a soda some days.
 
Sports is what saved my life more than once. Last thing I'd do in such a situation is seek help online. Turn the PC off, turn phone messagig shit off, facebook off phone, etc, and you'll feel a immense peace flow through you.
 
Never really worked for me either, but a few friends I have do swear by it.

I agree with your method, just go cold turkey and don't make a big deal out of it, focus on the positives of not drinking.

For alas, you didn't see the Spartan warriors of ancient Greece have a drink before or after battle!

It does sound cliche, I know...

i was drinking much when was younger few bottles of votka or whiskey per week, after years that had bad results on stomach then doctors said to stop smoke and drink immediately and i did.. now i just sometimes on holidays or very rare drink one, two glass of wine.
everyone is different as someone said, but you can try doing some sport or things that will make you happy, spend much time on work.. think about your family they love you, and your health its most important.. there is nothing good in alcohol

Easy to say, but can be harder in practice.

As a band aid try looking at Frogs to Princes (Bandler and Grinder). It's a book about affecting change at a personal level using NLP techniques. Sounds silly, but I had a huge phobia of spiders and used the techniques in this book for a month........and no change! Lol, so I assumed the techniques did not work.....

Fast forward two months.....

Came in one night and there was a HUGE spider in the bath. I picked it up and tossed it out of the window...Phobia gone!!!

The techniques described in the book worked!

I have also used the simple techniques in the book to overcome substance (alcohol) dependency issues myself.

Try this book, try NLP, try other methods and at the end of the day.......

I second that. Great book. If you're interested in NLP I highly suggest reading "Patterns of the hypnotic techniques of Milton Erickson" also by Bandler and Grinder. Really good shit.
