How much do I get Mam?

Edit: /sir

Stupid and pointless thing to say to someone struggling with addiction, what did you achieve by saying that? Other then being a dick?

To be fair though that's exactly how I stopped smoking; I manned up and stopped buying cigarettes.

@OP try start going to the gym. Believe me getting regular exercise increases self esteem and discipline. When you get regular exercise your body will also start craving more healthy foods which should make it easier to stop/reduce your drinking. If you can I really recommend going to the gym with a friend. In that way you can help each other stay motivated.

depending on the level of your addiction you might also want to seek professional help. If you are addicted to the point where you get physically ill if you don't stay drunk you should probably go to a doctor.

But m not man enough tell me

This is easier said than done but:

1) Seek professional help if it's something you can afford. If not, seek out a group of people who are, or were also struggling with something of the same nature.
2) Remove yourself from any "triggers" that may have caused, or enabled you to becoming an alcoholic. This means moving away from family if they are the root of the issue and dropping your social circles which involve drinking. If you maintain close contact with people who were your drinking buddies, or anything of that nature, you are making it 10x more likely you'll fail in reaching a better lifestyle.
3) Find a different hobby. It's easier said than done, but going to the gym is a great one if you can push yourself to get started.
4) Eat healthier - replace those alcohol calories with some real nutrition. Your body will thank you.
5) Hold yourself accountable. Tell people of what you are trying to do. You'll be more likely to stick to your goal.
6) If you make it (I hope you do), do not think it is ok to go back to chilling with the same people who contributed to getting to the point that you're at now. This increases your chance of relapse.

Best of luck.

Have you ever tried any psychedelics like shrooms? They contain a compound that has been said to help treat alcoholism. Its a crazy idea but there are storied on the internet where it has helped people them.

Iknow what u mean have had same problem, all the stress and then to relax a few drinks and then it even starts with a wiskey to the eccpresso in the morning, it sucks.. but I would suggest to take a pill call antabus it prevent you from drinking, maybe take some calming pills for a short time so you can sleep properly but be carefull with the pills because u get addicte to that also, but it helps, i also smoke weed sometimes and that was the thing that helped me the most, because its medicine just sad its not legal....so i dont smoke anymore... but i dont drink anymore only sometimes i can take a glas of wine to food on special times and champagne on new year or birthdays but thats it... been free from all that for 11 years now..and proud of it... :) if u have questions just send a pm and i can give u kore advice about this problem that detsroys family and everything...

be strong and try to find a good way!
my man has a drinking problem, and cannot admit it... it destroys you and the ones you love after a while. Don't let it get that far.

merry xmas

Congratulations OP!

The first step forwards is admitting you have a problem and being brave enough in speaking out about it, so well done mate!

Next step, get medical attention immediately, book the doctors appointment and commit to it. Join AA, it does work.

Also, try and understand the triggers that drive you to drink.

Above everything, have hope in the future and that this battle will pass and you do indeed have the strength to change. Know that you're not alone either.

I understand what you're going through. Personally, I have a type A personality and couldn't stop at the second beer, (it always had to be > 12 per session!). Haven't touched alcohol for over 9 years now, life's never been better.

I'm still in denial with my love affair with cigarettes though.

Good luck and I wish you well.

Just don't drink. First week is easy. Second week is rough. Third and fourth week you'll put something else in place of alcohol. After a month all you have to do is not drink....

I like to drink but these days I will have one blast every 6 months.... Not like in my younger years when we'd have a blast all week long.

Here re many good tips :
http://www.reddit.com/r/quitdrinking

But I find that too many people talking about how they can or can't quit is not 100% positive.

In fact, the last place a person wanting to leave depression or drinking should be is online IMO. Go outside, walk on the park, go to a healthy event, see gorgeous women, get your hormones working and seek a healthy life. Last place to be when drunk or sad is online. Especially Facebook which makes people sad and anxious by default.

Agree! It's a vicious cycle isn't it, I mean excessive drinking plus facebook, twitter etc etc.

The guilt I personally felt after "posting under the influence", was as I still remember crushing. I'd feel like a wanker for weeks on end, beating myself up about it.

I was even afraid of logging into my SM accounts the next day to see whom exactly I've manage to offend or cause concern to.
