While I somewhat agree with what you said. I still think morality is differs person to person, more so than others. But we're all individuals, we all have different levels of intelligence and we're all been brought up around different environments.

Just to name a few; Media companies like news, funeral services they all profit from human loss. If you trade oil or gold, you will also profit from disasters since it's those commodities that typically increase in times of disaster. There's thousands of others, I could be listing them all day long given enough thought.

I think morality is shaped by religion, so you're saying the second largest religion in the world Islam is not shaping peoples morals? How did you come to that conclusion? It's religion that shapes a lot of a child's upbringing.

This is what I'll never understand. People like you come out with "I just thought" but no, I actually haven't got a clue what you thought because you come out with lame posts but don't want to back them up. That leads me to think; "well I actually just don't like the sound of that. But I don't have any valid argument to back up my feelings." Is that correct?

I agree with this also. I think we're all capable of compassion. My heart goes out to the people of Syria right now, and I hope the days Assad are numbered.

I think some people here think I'm some kind of nihilist. I just typically argue the most up-popular most radical side of things. It's the ability to break out of the social norms of thinking, seeing everything from the other side of the table.

Everybody once believed in God, then someone argued well there might not in-fact be a God. Well I'm like that guy. Most of the time I'm unpopular, but I'm not trying to win a popularity contest here. I'm simply trying to open peoples minds into alternative view points and ways of seeing and approaching things. That's all.

I'm more surprised at how many people here are surprised.

Approx 1.2% of the U.S. population are potential psychopaths (http://www.hare.org/references/NeumannandHareJCCP2008.pdf), and I'm sure the condition is much more prevalent among scammers (obvs). Meaning even if you very generously play with numbers and say 1/10000 people is a psychopath (very, very generous) there are going to be ~700,000 people across the globe with no problem of doing this (actual expected numbers of psychopaths is much higher). This doesn't even take into account the people who aren't morally devoid, but are simply desperate, confused, or stupid.

I don't take this to be saying something about a culture or group of people, but of a type of person that is extremely inclined to take advantage of this kind of situation.

Think about it. Something happened that is extremely topical, emotionally grabbing, and best of all has little to no competition (no one else is willing to go there). It's the obvious choice.

(I'm trying to avoid the view of morals as subjective, as it appears to be a touchy subject. So, I'm avoiding them entirely)

P.S. It's horrible, and it should be stopped. I'm not saying otherwise , and never will. I'm just expressing my surprise at the people here who don't expect this to happen on a regular basis, especially considering the forum we're posting on.

Right and wrong is personal opinion, something you can't seem to grasp. Laws, morals, ethics, and values these all change country to country, region to region. Go and travel, I can already see it's you who is the "ignorant" stereotypical American who can't see past his own nose, or relate to an alternative view point without coming across like a 5 years old.

You want to monetize this disaster, out up a site with helpful info for the victims. Where to find the red cross, how to deal with FEMA, and put adsense on it and banner ads on it. I bet the red cross would jump on that with both feet, they are the KING of making money off disasters.
