Huge PayPal Negative Balance. HELP!

Well goodluck shie.chie, Paypal got office here in the Philippines. They can track you. I suggest you call their office and explain it, if not then I don't know what else to do in your situation. I guess, better be careful next time?

Paypal will try every possible way to get their money back, They have done this before and they will do whenever they want . Have you ever paid any one huge amount of money? if yes, Paypal will even charge back their funds as well. The worst case was you actually withdraw the money and forward using WU, which actually made this even big problem.

I badly need a serious advice. I owe PayPal $5900 because I was scammed by a Ukraine national. My situation went like this.

I am from the Philippines. I work as a Virtual Assistant. I saw this job posting on a legit online job portal and applied for it. The position was Virtual Financial Assistant. I got accepted. My job is to receive payments from my "employer" company's clients on my PayPal account, withdraw the money to my bank account and forward it to them via Western Union. I got my first transfer. It was a payment for a fake item they listed on eBay which costs $5900. Days after I forwarded the money to them, the buyer filed a dispute about not receiving the item. Because I don't have any proofs of shipment for the item he payed for, he got his full refund. Now I am the one having the debt on PayPal. I have contacted PayPal a lot of times already, sent them messages showing proof of my conversation with the scammer and receipt of the transfer but they told me they can't do anything for my case because the money has been withdrawed already. I also reported the eBay user on eBay. They filed a case and said they are going to investigate the user and see if he has violated any terms but the problem is they won't be able to give me updates on the case because of privacy reasons and even if they find suspicious actions on the user they still can't help me with my case because the transaction happened on PayPal. The eBay user has a 100% positive feedback, has past smooth transactions on his profile and is a member since 2011. I just wanted eBay to investigate the user and if found guilty have him pay the debt by locating his past PayPal account linked to his eBay account, but this seems impossible based on the reply I got from my past call. I have my personal information on my PayPal account, correct name and address. What will happen if I don't pay PayPal? I am not possibly paying for the money I don't have on-hand and I am not capable of paying this huge amount of money. I am also planning to close my bank account linked to my PayPal. I've read that if I don't pay my debt in 3 months, PayPal will pass my debt to a collection agency. I am from the Philippines. Will they still locate me? Will they take legal actions against me if I refuse to pay the debt even with the collection agency going after me? I badly need an advice. If there's anyone who can help I would be very grateful.

Hi, I'm also a freelancer in Onlinejobs.ph and I think we are in the same boat. That is the reason why I created this account so I can message you and ask how is it going on your end? As for me, the scammer's name was Anna Faris and I got a negative 3500 usd. I keep filing a complaint to Paypal and eBay--- I'm still waiting for a "good" response, though. I got totally BAD and CRAPPY responses in the past. However, since I also worked in call centers in the past, I learned that you get a different response each time you call. So there---I keep trying and trying until I get the help I need from the right person.

Anyway, have you reported the incident to the police or nbi? I am planning to report this situation to the authorities after the lent season (naabutan ako ng Mahal na araw).

I am not fond of debts because I believe in the saying that, "If you can't pay it in cash, you can't afford it". I never signed up for credit cards and I even avoid putting my hard earned money in the bank when I can. This negative balance situation is getting the sanity out of me! I'm sleepless for weeks now!

Anyways, I did some research while waiting for a "better response" from Paypal and Ebay. Here are some:

No.1 is the legislative process in our country about DEBT COLLECTION. We are protected by our country's law. No harassment can be done in order for us to pay. If ever Paypal will sell our debts to COLLECTION AGENCIES to go after us, at least they can't harass us and disturb our goodnight sleep or we can just report them to the authorities.

So let's just say, collection agencies haven't worked and will never work in our country... So the only thing Paypal can do is to file a case against us. I am actually looking forward for this one since it is the only way I can clear my name.

In the judicial process, we can present pieces of evidence to the court about our "innocence"--well, now that I look back, more like stupidity. But yes, we learned that the hard way. Since we are just victim of scams, and if ever the judge will still take the side of Paypal (since they have great lawyers, btw. Do you know how many people are trying to force-close the company but failed?), the court will just more likely make a court order for us to settle the payment within our own means---if we get jailed, how can we settle our debts, anyway?

So if you are like me who doesn't own any property, no job, and no savings, it is more like a dead end for Paypal. And imagine how much would Paypal spend just to file a lawsuit overseas and get to us---only to find out they can't get the money?

Maybe this is the reason why it is very hard to apply for a credit card in our country. This is also the reason why Paypal credit is not available in our country.

If everything failed, we can also file for bankrupcy.

....but i still hope we won't get that far.... I still need my paypal acccount anyway.

How come they allow scammers to take advantage of their policies and screw real customers.
I hope Karma will go after these scammers.
Let's cast a spell on them.lol

Alright bro, Listen to me. I have seen this kind of shit before, so let me tell you something, nothing is gonna happen to you. As far as the negative balance thing goes, I am guessing the eBay buyer opened a dispute and you got a chargeback. They can't do jackshit about it, they will block your IP and shut your account and you will be fine. No legal trouble will ever be coming to your doorstep for this matter. YOU WILL BE FINE, DONT WORRY. And for all these people who are calling you dumb need to relax, how about if you have nothing productive to say, then shut the hell up!.
Life has dealt you these cards and its an experience. Don't worry Paypal ain't gonna do jack shit, smoke some weed if you do and relax.

Go to the local police and explain them what happened.

Hi. I already reported my case to the police and they advised me to just wait for a formal complaint PayPal will file against me. On ebay and paypal, please don't waste your time on them. I've been calling them for like a month, sent them messages on facebook and twitter but failed to clear my name. But you can still try. I hope that works for you.

Btw, thank you for the information about debt collection and judicial process here. I already got paranoid about my debt being passed to collection agencies that I no longer answer phone calls not on my contact list. At least the information you just shared eased me.

I really hope everything will work for us. It's been two months since I got my negative balance so I only have a month left before I start receiving phone calls from them. If it's okay with you, I'd like to talk to you about this scam. You can email me here: [email protected]

wow..you should really go to a police station and explain everything

Breathe and calm down bro.
I'm not the first here to tell that, but you surely have all emails you crossed with Ukraine scammer...
so store it as proof, as well as any other document (screen caption, etc) and store it securely.

Now Paypal can send as many emails they want, but the case is way more complex than their simple inner procedures can handle. As you also sent them messages showing proof of my conversation with the scammer and receipt of the transfer, calm yourself: you are taking steps to getting things fixed.
Honesty is by your side.

Please keep us updated about this, ok?
And breathe!

I don't think paypal would do anything to you since there lawyers would cost more than the amount you got scammed for anyways I wish you all the best of luck and to never make this mistake again if possible :)

Hello kabayan! This is what I will suggest to you contact onlinejobs.ph as its on their platform the incident happen I think they have responsibilities also to this kind of incident. Also call Tulfo contact them on their fb page I think they can also help you. It's good if this will be aired on national TV so that the suspects will not victimized more Filipino in the future and many more Filipinos will be aware of this kind of scam.

Oh yeah paypal gonna start taking 95% of my transactions just so they can cover expenses from patsies like you.

I feel so sorry for your predicament, here I'll pay for it with my taxes.

Social welfare my ass, call me a conversative scrooge but I ain't paying so someone could get coverage when they are being stupid.

Viva la resistance!

Did they give you an amount in return for sending them the money?
