A little background: I've had a hubpages account for around a year, but only realised its earning potential a couple of months ago when I began using it aggressively. Everything was going well using the method I was using - last month I earned $97 for the month (some of you might laugh at this tiny amount but for others, like me, it was a huge accomplishment, considering I was coming from a series of unsuccessful blackhat seo attempts over a year to this.) And then - whamo! Today I logged in to see my account banned suddenly. Big bummer.
So I'm sharing my method with blackhatworld to help others spam hubpages/earn a little money:
Everything clicked with my earning potential when I realised that I had to focus on a key audience - consumers. People who want to buy things. Before I realised this, I was writing a series of articles for adsense purposes on how to do things and information about things in order to snag a few random clicks. BIG mistake. This is step one, and one that held me back for so long - don't write information articles, don't write how to do or to fix or the history of such and such if you want to convert. Write about reviews, best of, top ten - things people are looking for when they actually want to buy things! Once I realised the difference between product and information hubs, my CTR went way up.
Next: Keyword research. I have market samurai and have used it with my hubs, however I find it's just as successful to search amazon for popular products or up and coming ones. Just make sure the product you choose to advertise doesn't already have too much competition - I find that under 50,000 is really tops for getting hubs ranked.
Next step: grab yourself some content. Did you know that it is not against amazon's TOS to copy their product reviews onto your website (or hub) for the purpose of advertising their products? I didn't until recently, but it made life sooo much easier when I did. All you have to do is take some reviews from amazon, stick it on your hub, and suddenly you've got yourself a content and seo rich article ready to go!
Fourth step: monetization. If you don't have yourself an amazon associates ID, post a few articles up and apply for one. After a short month or two my amazon earnings were already far outstripping my long and unsuccessful adsense earnings (though I did see a rise in that too when I started writing product hubs.)
Ad placement: Hubpages has modules much like squidoo does where you can place your amazon product links, but instead of sharing 50/50 like squidoo, they share 60/40 in your favor. I've found that placing these at the very top of the page, and under pictures leads for a very high CTR, because this is where the eyeballs seem to travel. I just grab the amazon product picture, and the hub is ready to go.
Backlinking: I've found that I don't need to do much backlinking - google seems to rank hubs pretty highly, mostly the bottom of the first page or sometimes the top without any backlinks whatsoever, one of the reason I love (loved) hubpages. However, if someone twisted this method and used backlinks, they may have even more success than I did.
All in all, it takes me about 20 minutes to "write" a hub - just grab the reviews (not the descriptions, because they often come up duplicated content, and I'll explain that in just a minute) place the pictures, add the amazon capsules, and you're done! You don't even need to place your adsense yourself - hubpages has a system called yield build which means it automatically places your adsense in the most strategic place depending on your content.
The cons of this method/the reason I got banned: I placed all of my duplicate content on one account. It didn't matter that my account was nearly a year old and had some of what they considered "quality" original content written by myself, I believe that with so many duplicate articles it tripped some sort of trigger that my account was spam.
What I suggest doing so you avoid my mistakes: open multiple hubpages accounts, mix it up with more original content, and use different amazon tracking IDs for each one. I started noticing that the product descriptions almost always come up "duplicate content," however if you grab a review off of page three of the product it's less likely too. Product specifications/details seem to be okay as well as far as not tripping the duplicate content filter. So remember to be creative and mix it up to fly under hubpages radar, and never have all of your money making hubs on one account.
I have learned my lesson however and have decided to attempt to start my own websites - if you build your empire on some else's site it could all be taken away in an instant. Hubs and things = risky, but really easy to get ranked and earn money. So I'm sharing this with you all in hopes that you all get a little richer using my method, maybe put your money toward buying hosting for your own website or xrumer, so please black hat world I invite you, go forth and spam the hell out of hubpages!
