When we type anything in the search box the wikipedia shows up in top 10 results.It's difficult to rank for a single keyword.How are they ranking for all the keywords?

no one will no that unless you own there system.
there indexing is there algo and that a hidden secret.
wiki not used like Google it a complete different beast.
the idea of wiki is to enter somethink you need to understand or research .
the only thing you can do with wiki seo point of view is take over broken links to get a free link and boost indexing.
you can also use wiki for on page seo if you learn it ....
or use wiki if you own somethink online and want to show how it works.
wiki is a very powerfull tool but you need to learn how to use it with seo projects .

It is still no well known. It is a well known fact that it works really different than other search engines though.

It is considered an Authority Site, with hundreds of thousands of pages. Where they have a page covering a keyword it is highly likely it will be ranked.

Some sites outranked Wikipedia. If course there are all authority sites. It all based on relevancy. Just because you outranked Wikipedia, it doesn't mean that you will make lots of money, because most of the keywords dominated by that site are just definition-like keywords.

Wikipedia forms part of Google knowledge graph. If you want to beat wikipedia, get some links on the site. Use broken links method or build from foreign languages
