Actually, I have this course and it sucks. He isn't even prepared for it. Total waste of time

I prefer going for videos more than reading when it comes to learning. It takes less time and you see the instructor while working.
PHP & MySQL are all over the net. From my experience here I go looking in these
1 - InfiniteSkills : they are pretty great in covering a whole subject and straight to the point
2 - Lynda : Some instructor are pretty slow in teaching ( which I hate ) and others are great.
3 - Udemy : What I don't like about Udemy its open for anyone to post his course. This makes me wonder about quality. On the other side it has advantage of finding courses that you won't find anywhere else.
Go to TBP ( The Pirate Bay ) and you will find PHP&MySQL courses from Infiniteskills and Lynda for free. Make sure to download the latest one. This will ensure you are learning the latest version of the language you are studying using the latest tools

Sometimes in the freebies section there are free udemy courses to learn PHP. There are some great courses out there.

First find a good tutorial series from YouTube. That will give you kick start because it's easyer to hear and understand

Try codeacademy, or if u want paid option teamtreehouse.
I taught my self php by choosing a project that I wanted to complete. My project happened to be a shopping cart and I just tackled it with a marker board, a plan to developing it and a to do list. With Google you can get almost every answer to your problem. Remember PHP net is your friend. It is important to watch a YouTube video or something on OOP before you start. It will help you better your php skills because your first program will probably suck, as did mine. But I learned and my new ones have gotten better. Doing is the best way to learn
