how to start a successful facebook page

Hi, need advice, probably from any1 who has successfully ran a facebook group(s).

what would be the best strategy to start and maintain a facebook group wherein i can get more and more genuine participating members, ultimately to get a highly engaged audience? without buying fans or likes

Add some friends relevant to the group. Offer them some freebies to add more members. Post good information in the group so that they stick.
