Do I need to be resident? Can I travel japan on tourist visa and get my credit card? Or perhaps open a LLC there. I'll appreciate if you can help

1 .JP domain name can be registered by non-Japanese.
2 .JP domain registration doesn't require local Japanese CC.
3. start a company in Japan would help, but it is not necessary.
4. Japanese contact address and phone are required.
5. If 4 is not applicable for you, I would suggest you to select Trustee/Proxy Service to get the .jp domain name.

Does proxy service include putting backorder of domains we want on onamae or even buying through auctions? We can pay and move domains to proxy service no problem.

Yeah, getting a .jp domain through Onamae is tricky if you're not in Japan. I've heard the 3D secure card requirement blocks most foreigners, unless you have a Japanese residency or company setup.
Some people go through domain brokers or use friends in Japan to get around it, but it's still hit-or-miss.Curious if anyone found a reliable workaround too?

Do it with the help of your Japanese friends. Unfortunately, it is unrealistic to get a credit card or open an llc with the tourist visa you are talking about.
