However, if it has a good link profile and is an EMD you probably will find that all the links are relevant to the EMD subject, a hidden bonus of having an EMD that nobody talks about. If your EMD is metalteacups.com then there is a better chance your links in your link profile are relevant to metal tea cups than if your URL was teacupprincess.net or whatever.

Of course it is possible, just keep in mind there are many other factors at play besides your EMD, and your links. The competition, the content of your site, and of course time. In no way are PBNs a requirement to rank. However, the fact you say your niche is highly competitive isn't the best news.
