How to Learn SEO - A Quick Guide for Newbies

Awesome Thread. I'll probably get frowned upon for asking this, but guess it's normal since I'm a still new to SEO. How effective and safe is it to use only web 2.0's for link building in modern day local seo, lets say for a medium competition keyword? Would you consider it dangerous to use only web 2.0's and is diversification the way to go?

You kinda almost answered yourself. Using ONLY one type of link building strategy is unnatural, hence Big G won't like it. Mix it up a little, like you said, diversify your link building strategies.
Personally I like 2.0 sites, but I use them as a buffer of sorts. In addition to them I use blog comments to whip up traffic and promote new content, as well as using guest blogging, creating videos, sounds etc.
To me I approach it like a campaign, every link serves a purpose, and even though some links that are considered low quality like blog comments, I use them in a high quality way to further the content campaign.

I think your guide is full with goodies and the heading should seo for all. There are lots of points that will help me. And "Do not get your panties in a bunch and put down the Doritos." that's really nice comment!

I'm confused. You said read every post about seo.... what do mean by that ,that's pretty broad. Keyword research and on page optimization I can just search for....do I just search seo on this forum too? Sorry I'm a complete noob and only know a little

First thing first, READ EVERY THREAD ON BHW EVER POSTED ABOUT SEO, KW (Key Word) RESEARCH, AND ON - PAGE OPTIMIZATION. Why? Because 99% of the questions ever asked are already answered. For example, I know of multiple excellent beginner guides from phpbuilt, basstrackerboats, Kimi, t0mmy, Zwielicht, rabbitking, and so on.
