Yes, it is done pretty easily with a 301 redirect from a high pr page.. unfortunately it is almost impossible to identify it..

It's very easy to detect Fake PR, just type in Google:

    info: yourdomain.com

if the result is different than the domain you tested against, the PR is fake

Would that be considered "fake" pr. and since now the link juice is passed on, would the new page retain its pr if the redirect is deleted??

No, if the 301 redirect is removed the new page would lose its PR completely. This is why domain buyers and brokers have to be very careful when purchasing a domain from lets say a private owner or an auction because a lot of sellers will do a 301 redirect to boost the PR of the new domain to increase the sale price and then once they sell it they remove the redirect and the owner loses all of the PR of the domain they purchased.

Mostly the redirected page will have that PR until next update even after the removal of redirection. You need to check the backlinks of the domain to make sure it is really have PR or not.

I would use backlinkwatch.com / if there is no backlinks it means it is fake.

No pagerank tool will ever be useful because the guys would play with fake pageranks use the fact that google update their pagerank every ...3 months (?) or so...

So you can for instance buy a page rank that is really a PR 3 on March and then the website page rank hits ZERO in April.

Careful. There's some sneaky PR manipulation going on these days which bypasses the old info: yourdomain.com and all the usual online fake PR checkers. I suspect some nifty htaccess coding but can't put my finger on it. As above poster says, careful link analysis will give you a good clue is this is BS PR that will likely disappear in the next update. Check the site on archive.org wayback machine... if you see snapshots of redirects even long ago that shouldn't be there, something is definitely a miss.

    You're wrong.

The ONLY way to identify if a PageRank is FAKE or REAL for sure, is to run a backlink analyze and check LIVE backlinks.

    info:domain.com or info:http://www.domain.com in Google

If the results show a different website, it means there is a redirect in place.

Then you may want to check it with a service like Rank Checker's PageRank Checker:

    http://www.rankchecker.com/pagerank-checker/

you can always check it using 301 redirect and also using info : yourdomainname.com. It would easily tell you whether the domain page rank is fake or not.

Recently i came across a few sellers selling high pr blog post.
    pr 7 - 9
i am pretty sure they are fake but they passes all the usual check

    1) Pagerank checker
    2) info:domain.com
    3) backlinks, they have 1,000s of backlinks

what make me so sure they are fake ?
i seen legit high pr sites
pr7 websites should be like venturebeat
pr8 websites should be like mashable and techcrunch
p5 websites shoud be like SPI at the very minimum

fake pr sites do not show up on wayback machine cache

that how i determine whether its real or fake.
but i am very curious how they bypass info:domain.com check

    can anyone answer ?
    thanks

They just 301-redirect their site to a high pagerank site just before a pagerank update is coming and the domain will get the same PageRank as the website they have been pointed to. Then you simply just cancel the 301 and put on some content and create more backlinks to make the Fake PR more believable.
