My ecommerce category page was ranking on 40th position. But now its no where in Google. What is the cause of this? what's need to be done to get my page back in serp? How I will further move this page to first page and improve ranking?

What is the cause of this?
did you recently make any changes to the page (to its content or URL usually) or to other stuff that could impact it, such as:

- to internal links that are pointing to this page (did you remove / overuse the anchors of those internal links?)
- to your SEO plugin that could impact noindexation / canonicalization of this page?
- to your theme (changed permalinks settings maybe)?

These can impact a page and remove it from the SERPs, so think hard about what you could have done to affect this page directly or indirectly and if you did one of these then probably that's why it vanished from the SERPs.

Oh, also... did you change hosting provider, hosting plan, or the site's theme? These could also screw your rankings too...

If you didn't do any of these it's possible that the recent google update (which seems to still be omgoing btw) had affected it, in which case I wouldn't do anything for a few more weeks (or, rather, until the update finishes) as it's possible that the page will come back on its own...

If it's not the update either I don't know in this case, I would have to look deeper into it, which I won't do obviously. But you can do it if you know what to search for :)

You can start by logging into your GSC and checking at which date the page disappeared and see if it's during the recent google update, or prior to that. I don't know what you should look for had the page disappeared prior to the google update, but you keep checking everything, maybe you will find a clue or something...

Also check Ahrefs / Semrush (whichever one you're using) for stuff that's happened to the SERPs / keywords / rankings / whatever else you can think of, both before, and after your page vanished. You might find something that you can pick on...

I think if a category page disappears, Google may think the content is weak or not relevant, so you need better content with good SEO.

Yeah I get you, I’ve had pages vanish from Google too and it’s super frustrating. i am still testing different fixes to see what brings them back.

Monitor analytics, see which keywords lost traction, and build quality backlinks naturally to regain and boost position.

Don’t panic, guys the update is still rolling out. This may just be a reflection of that.

Check here: https://status.search.google.com/ So, Let’s wait for the update to settle down before making any major changes.

You can get your e-commerce category page back in SERPs by checking a few things:

Make sure the page is still indexed (use site:yourdomain.com/category-url in Google).

Fix any noindex, canonical, or robots.txt issues that may block it.

Improve internal linking so the page gets authority from other pages.

Refresh content with unique text, FAQs, and better product descriptions.

Build a few quality backlinks pointing to the category page.

Ensure fast loading speed and mobile friendliness.

Could be a mix of things google updates, stronger competitors, thin content, or technical issues like crawlability. First check search console for indexing or coverage issues. Then make sure the category page has unique, keyword-rich content, optimize title, and add some internal links pointing to it. From there build authority with backlinks and keep the page updated. That usually helps bring it back and move up toward page one.
