Don't know if this has been posted before. I was able to get an old/rare username by using this method. (it took 4 weeks after sending in the request.
1. Go to youtube.com to find a username you like.
2. The older it is the more likely you are to get it.
3. Go to http://tess2.uspto.gov/bin/gate.exe?f=tess&state=4002:tbe964.1.1 and search for the username you want to take. So lets just say you want the username "demon", search up "demon" for trademarks.
4. Look for a trademark that is older than the youtube account. It's a plus if the trademark deals with online goods. It can take a while so don't feel bad if you can't find one right away.
5. After you find a trademark and the username go to http://www.google.com/support/youtube/bin/request.py?contact_type=legal2 and click Trademark issue with a username and continue.
6. Now fill out the form with the information from the trademark.
7. For full legal name write the Attorney of records from the trademark you got it from. And for Your title or job position write "Attorney of Record".
8. For Describe specifically how the trademark is allegedly infringed: * write the following replacing it with your trademark information :
"Intentional cybersquatting. User obtained acct on 9/29/2005; no visits in
5yrs, no activity or uploads. Attempted to contact user, but received no
response. DARK CARNIVAL was incorporated before this account; the US
trademark (Registration #2995702) was filed in 2002 and approved in 2005. "
If the account logged in the past year or has uploads or anything like that it will be harder so you will have to kind of social engineer it yourself with something like:
" My customers think that our business is associated with that youtube account and it is interfering with our business" Or something like that. You might have to be creative.
9. Once you sent your appeal it can take a few weeks to a month in order to get a reply back.
10. Enjoy your OG account.
