be clever, witty, and funny (dry humor seems to be popular) focus on subreddits that you have a passion for & you should easily rake in the comment karma.

The best way to get karma is to post popular content.
Note that this doesn't necessarily mean good content, or even original content. Just popular. If reddit likes it, reddit will upvote it. You'll gain one karma point for each upvote received in a certain timeframe.
The more upvotes it gets, the bigger audience it will be exposed to, which in turn results in even more upvotes, and so on...
Your best bet at gaining massive amounts of karma fast is to post in large subreddits (i.e. subreddits with over a hundred-thousand or million subscribers). Image posts tend to get more upvotes on average, and result in more karma. You won't get karma from self-posts.
Look for content that has done well in the past, and submit similar content.
Is it worth it?
Well, that depends.
It's almost like getting a high score in a video game: if it feels worth it, go for it. Outside of reddit, karma has no value. Inside, it's value is debatable. But it's still fun to get.

You've obviously missed the part where it says "comment karma" and not "post karma" - what you just typed is completely irrelevant to the post. The title even specifies "comment karma".

Go to /r/politics and say something nasty about the current politics. Since all of Reddit became /r/politics now you'll easily find a place to post and gain instant karma.

Go to a medium sized subreddit.
Sort the posts by "top" and select "all time". Find the most popular posts in there from a long time ago.
If they're images, download the image and resubmit to imgur again to get a new address. Whatever it is, image or video get a new URL for it.
Submit to the same subreddit with a slighly different title.
Profit.
