Well I've recently crossed paths with a sociopath unbeknownst to me on Instagram. I run a page in the personal niche and a few months back I noticed a particular user was consistently engaging my most active followers, which turned into him copying my picture, same pose, clothes, smoking the same brand cigarettes. Alright cool, no biggie; I'm confident enough in myself to not feel as if someone trying to imitate me would be a threat. Infact, I tried to look at it as a good thing in one small way as they same imitation is the highest form of flattery. Well, long story short, I have been succumb to poison account attacks (someone makes/pay for hundreds of fake very very low quality spammy account to follow you, engage with all your content and engage with your followers aswell, therefore lowering the status of your account to extremely limited). I grew 700 followers in the 3 days prior to this, it's been a few days now and I am losing followers from lack of growth and blocking these "death" account. Is there anyway I can combat this, is there any chance my profile is "gone for good" or too infected with these accounts (there are hundreds of "free follower" and very low quality accounts engaging with all of my real followers), is there any way I could stop this attack or steps I can take to restore my account status. So much work down the drain, just because someone decided stealing my entire identity and all of my followers wasn't good enough, they had to destroy my account as well. Should I return the attack or do you think I'd be better off cutting my losses. Any advice/input would be appreciated.

TL;DR: Someone is copying my entire instagram account, engaging all of my followers and sending hundreds of "Free Follower" type low quality account to my profile and completely degraded and limited my account. Is there anything I can do?

Also, retaliation is possibility does anyone know where I could buy some of these low quality accounts?

Just inform your followers with a post that there is a copycat (mention his username and show a photo of his face) and that they have to block him and report for spam. That should do the job?

Yeah this kind of stuff can happen. Are you going to pull your slaves up and fight or run and let them win is the question?

I think that the only thing you can do is to contact the IG staff asap telling them what's going on. I created a thread with a question of how to prevent and resolve this kind of problems but no one replied

Block the person from your IG and set your account to private for a few days and block those fake accounts too. You could try going public once you have everything sorted and once you notice fake followers come in, go private for a day. After a while I'm sure the person in question will give up and move on to someone else.

Unfortunately, he went extremely hard and managed to gain a larger following than me during the 1-2 period I was slacking off and focusing on another account. I don't know how to fight back however, because in theory even if my whole following were aware, If I were to reciprocate the attack, my account would still be in limited standing and he could still send these accounts to me and my followers. It's very tempting but I feel these guy is heartless enough to escalate in the form of allegations to ruin my reputation, I didn't mention 99% of these fake followers are following the page "secretlygay", not to mention a few questionable looking gymnastics pages along with it as well, that they're following. I fear this is his attempt at a veiled threat. Idk maybe that part is imagined but this guys complete lack of compassion is ridiculous. I could live with this if it were some sort of travel or fashion page but I feel a personal connection to this account, my first and only personal. Idk what to do, if it was up to me I'd pull up to the f*$#ker right now and resolve it real quick..

Good idea, it's definitely worth a try although I've heard IG's customer support is some of the worst. I'll update with their response.

Yeah I feel like this may be the best option to handle it. However, this whole ordeal has been slowly escalating to the point that it's at now for close to a year, before I went to a public personal profile which I was trying to grow, I had a private one like almost everyone does, and he was even following me there. The strong imitation and targeting started within the past 3/4 months however. It doesn't seem he wants to let up, but he seems to be a special case. Definitely a great way to go though, going private now.
