How to absolutely *bury* a competitor in SERP?

Hi guys,

There's a physical product that I've worked on for the past 6 months, and it's pretty much ready to go.

But I just discovered that a competitor in a different country has my exact same name, with a very similar product.

Currently when you search for the name, his website shows up first (because my store isn't online yet). But once I go live, I don't even want him on the first page (or at least remove him asap).

What can I do to bury him from the first SERP?

negative SEO is not allowed on the forum, I don't think you'll get tips for this if that's what you're alluding to...

Otherwise, outrank him! Make better content, get more & better links, etc...

There's nothing you can do to take someone off of a serp.

Negative seo is against this forums rules but Even with negative seo, You can only outrank them. Not yeet them out completely off the game. Google has figured most of those negative seo techniques anyways.

The best you can do is patent your product. Then take your competitor down for infringing on your Intellectual Property. That might not work, but if you have the points. There's a chance it will.
 
how do you push someone down on serps? put your thinking cap on for this one. get 10 domains under you control (or web 2.0's) to outrank your competitor.

You should've done your homework before you started working on the product. Now you need to rename it or invest in PR double than the amount it would cost you to rename.
Make sure they don't have have a trademark in the countries you plan on selling in. Given that you are far behind them, they might still win in a battle over the name even if you trademark it.
 
It is and was easier to pick a brand name not already in use.

Negative SEO is a scummy practice racing us all down to the bottom. It's also not so easy to do well as people think. Course correct, copy the commerce site to a new domain
and don't hurt someone because your research was poorly executed.

Thank you for letting me know. Tbh I aam thinking the more white hat I can do it the better (in terms of making the results last and not get punished)

Nono he can stay, I just don't want him on the first, at least very top of the page. Product can't be patented. It's unique but there are similar products out there. Planning on trademarking it tho, came to the same conclusion as you.

Hahah was thinking about it. But won't Google notice? It's a specific brand name. Would probably take as much energy as doing it legit

I did my research, and so did he/they. We both started our companies around the same time, and we spent around the same time developing the product. So at the point of research, the name was indeed available for both of us. So we're at around the same place. Altho their marketing isn't very good, so I'm confident I can grow past them quite fast.


Thanks for the advice guys. It's not the end of the world, but it would be a nice benefit to have them less visible on the serp.
 
The only reasonable advice came from @uncutu

Firstly, you don't need top 10 positions, pointless.

Secondly, you can't use web 2.0 / parasites as that can be easily dealt with/removed, even by competitor attempts.

Finally, you want to rise 2-3 sites along your store, and rank all of them, taking top 3-4 spots in rankings.

Your sites can be product reviews, top 10 products, best [your niche keyword]

Then your other sites can claim that your product (main site) is the best thing to have, and act like affiliate sites (in google eyes)

Forget about negative SEO.

Take advantage of their marketing weaknesses if you know about them and just do your job well:
1) Launch your website and promote it to the first page;
2) Create strong profiles of your company/product on Social Media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X, YouTube).

This way, you will take 5 positions on the first page of the SERP if your social media profiles and your website are successful.
 
Why focus on burying someone, when you can focus on trying to rise above them to the top.

i can't speak from direct experience. but it does not seem google will notice or care for these matters.
for instance, see reputation management agencies.
many of their customers are those who want to remove their mugshots from the internet, but can't.
these agencies will generate multiple websites to outrank the offending search result, and push it past top-10 serps. it's been around for years as a proven method.

They've been around before you. Maybe you should choose a different name.

But if you truly want to bury them. Look for their physical address and do the dirty job yourself.

Of course there is - it's the same as for reputation management.

Just outrank his site with multiple different websites/content types.
 
simply outrank them with good content and good backlinks to your site.
this will make your site #1
 
Optimize your website with strong SEO, create lots of high-quality content and build backlinks.
 
Long term it is always better to focus effort and funds to improve your own SEO instead of killing your competition. Because even if you succeed, a million other competitors will take their place, whilst your site sits unimproved.

You should spend either money for quick result or time for it beat your competitor.

Actually a great idea. Was thinking of doing this with gads, but might as well do organic. Anything I should watch out for when making multiple pages? Or are there any good courses/tutorials on it? I've been around on this forum for some years, but never rly did seo for my stores. Just afraid Google will catch me I guess.

Great idea as well! There are more weaknesses than strengths, so the main challenge will prob be to get enough content for social. This is my job regardless, but if u got any advice on how to get more content I'm all ears!

The main focus is definitely the Apple way; just making a great product, instead of the Microsoft way; looking at the competitors. But doesn't hurt to do this as well
