How much would you pay a content writer?

You get paid what you set yourself at. Yes you will no doubt get more customers selling at $5 per 500 words but if you really are that great of a writer you can command easily $50+. It might be hard to imagine that here because a lot of people on this site will never pay for that but any high quality site will pay the price. It also depends on your skill if you are a native English speaker with a College degree in an English country you should be charging more than a person from Asia who makes the occasional English mistake and may have issues with research.

Depends on your niche as well as the level of research that you look being put into it. Pay what you are comfortable with is what I would suggest.

As a commodity, writing has a problem. Most of it is shit. In a marketplace, when even a small part of it is shit, you can't afford to be paying the price of a steak when you might just get a shit sandwich. The shit crowds out the good stuff because nobody can make steak every day and compete on price with shit. So everybody pays shit prices and gets shit in return.
If you want to be paid for steak, you'll need to prove you have steak and advertise this product on the market as something a cut above the rest.

I pay up to 2 per 100 or $20 for 1000 words article that good for home page.
Whole site can cost me 500-900. Not cheap but not expensive either if it make money after all.

Get what you pay for folks. Enjoy your low quality articles like this guy's.
I get $50-$100 for an article, because I don't write the Engrish like this guy. I also have expertise in certain niches.

I know a guy that gets $1 per 100 words. His writing is about average. The thing is, there is loads of work for that sort of pay range. He still sometimes gets offered silly money like $1.2 for 500 words, but he just turns it down.
There are always going to customers that are willing to pay average money for average results.

Prove you are a good writer, then you can command good money.

Most people do not agree with this view as it seems many decide to pay ridiculously low rates to have content made for their website. However I strongly agree with the rate you have suggested if you would like content that engages and converts a website visitors attention it is well worth the investment.
