Depends if you are also going to debug code or its just for coding. Anyways no one is so stupid to code and dont debug it, so probably for a wide range of tasks it does a really great job, and also for multitasking.

You can program on a 1st gen raspberry pi. I'm sure just about any laptop can be used to program.
 
yes, this is a very good option. you will be able to complete any task without encountering bugs and problems. if it's simple coding, web, then everything is fine. if you want to do 3D or develop locations and models. I advise you to increase your ssd drive
