How is my new laptop for programming?

It must depend on the laptop and the programs installed, as I installed visual studio on a relatively good laptop, and the thing just died, and refused to startup! lol never Lenovo again for me now! :)

I can use whatever laptop that let's me run linux but I prefer desktop pc for programming with a big monitor

Oh how old was it and what were the specs?

My grandpa Lenovo still can run VS smoothly.

Also what is your favorite laptop brand?

It depends on what type of coding since you’ll be testing on it most likely.

Doing work with neural networks or multiple VMs will tax it.

Most other types is way more than enough.
 
These are good characteristics. But if you have to work with conterization, virtualization or heavy IDEs, you probably need to increase memory. I had 16gb of RAM at first too, but now I've increased to 64 (32 is enough and 64 for games).
 
It depends on what are you going to code. resource-intensive scenes using rendering in Unreal Engine, it may not be enough, but if you're writing something for web development, it may be too much. However, any bad code can make any machine suffer, so...
I`m working as backend/frontend developer with much less powerful machine, and I`m happy with that

For most programming tasks this is great. I have spent up to almost $4K in the past on a laptop. Right now, my go to is a M1 Mac mini I got for $699 a few years ago. I had a setup I made for portability, but I decided to bite the bullet and buy another laptop recently for on the go (mainly for sitting outside lol). While 16GB is normally recommended (which yours has), for most you can even get away with 8GB. The only thing is the CPU is lacking a little for more complex (resource intensive) tasks.
 
Perfectly fine. Coding doesn't require a lot of resources (usually). Of course there are cases where you would need a better machine
 
It's great.

But MacBook is better.

Windows is more versatile system, while MacOS is more specialized for business purposes like an iPhone.
 
Today 32 gigabytes of RAM isn't enough.

But a lot of cloud services available. So you can do locally or be in the skies!
