Expired domains
Typing your keyword on Google search and finding potential buyers from the results.
Let me just give you an example.
You own StormConstruction. com
Potential buyers;
Storm-Construction. com
StormConstructionCompany. com
StormConstruction. net
and so on…
Doing a Google search you will come across plenty of websites for that.
Wait one second!
I have found my most valuable domain names executing manual searches.
And yes, you can beat out the software applications and domain catchers, but ONLY when you understand the nuances, and ebb and flow of each of the registrars.
Honestly, you can become a BEAST when it comes to snagging brandable, memorable, and profitable domain names, but you MUST be willing to put in the WORK!
When it comes to domain sniping, then it's very difficult to beat the big services, especially DropCatch as they own hundreds of registrars which they've paid millions for.
This increases their chances significantly as they're able to do a lot of API calls and catch the domain as soon as the grace period is over.
@UpwardDescent
I have over 6000 domain names in my portfolio; I beat the big services on the regular.
We're looking at this from two different perspectives and two different mindsets.
You? You can tell me about your perspective and mindset.
Me? Maybe it's my military background, but I approach ALL of my online endeavors as WAR!
Which means I have WAR ROOMS.
Inside those WAR ROOMS, we hash out how to CRUSH our enemies, how to annihilate them, how to outthink them, how to outsmart them, how to outmaneuver them, how to use their strengths against them, and how to use their weaknesses against them.
I stated earlier, with EVERY registrar, you MUST understand their nuances, ebb and flow, and how they handle domain names.
I also stated that you MUST put in the WORK to learn them.
HINT: everyone registrar has identifiable weaknesses and chinks in their armor, once you identify them, that information is *PURE GOLD!
Once you rise to that level of perspective and mindset, you will become unstoppable!
But, let's do this... the OP did an amazing job, I'm sure there are BHM members who want to pick his brain and glean from what he accomplished, let's let this thread stay on track with that thought process in mind.
Thanks!
I like your mindset and I also believe that's the right attitude.
But when it comes to catching expired domains, then it's not about any tricks or having a war room, it's only about money.
For example, DropCatch owns hundreds of registrars and there's little you can do to beat them if they're interested in the domain.

@UpwardDescent
You obviously don't understand how to conduct WAR.
DropCatch is simply another combatant; the same principles, rules of war, and rules of engagement apply.
They can be beaten, YOU just haven't learned how.
I don’t see them as my opponent. While they catch their domains with softwares and auto buy, I take my time to research and hand register. This is a huge market and there is money for everyone. You can join auctions, bid on great domains to resell if you have money to invest. I don’t have enough money to join auctions so I buy domains hand registered directly from registrars and try to resell them.Call it whatever you like, mate, the problem is that your opponent (DropCatch, for example) has hundreds of times more resources than you.
Sure, you could win in some rare instances if they don't have enough interest in the domain, but if they do then you're chances are slim.
Is this something that you think can scale? Is it replicable?
Also, how could you be sure the company would pay you? Did you transfer the domain first?
