Intro: I run a group of websites, some got some panda love, and some got f*cked up. I have run a lot of comparisons between the two sides, and I have come out with some interesting data that may be helpful to those SEO's out there struggling to beat the beast. #1: Ridiculously low keyword authority links = plan to success. The site that did the best post panda gained +50% traffic across all keywords on my site. The thing is the actual rankings for the specific keywords on my list didn't really move up or down. I believe just 1 keyword went from #4 to #3, but that keyword did not receive much more traffic. What ended up happening is I got TONS of traffic from long tail versions of my main keywords post panda. There are at least 3 variations of each of my keywords bringing in traffic, each with a small amount but when you add it up, there is a nice increase in visits. So what do I mean by low keyword authority? I use a blog network that most people don't use (which therefore escaped the beating that bigger networks such as ALN got) to create 8-10 links to each post: - 3 primary keyword - 2 variations - 3 random text like: click here, read more, click - 2 branded keywords: ebay.com, www. ebay.com #2 MANUAL blog comments (on moderated blogs) using just industry related terms and more branding: - auctions - shopping - products I also created some AA posts to the homepage on both the private blog network and on some AA blogs. #3 I created 15 directory links from some top directories (that weren't spammed to death), and like 30 on some of the lesser directories. I did not use anchor text as the title on any of the low quality sites, but on the high quality sites I again used the same industry terms as I did with the manual blog comments. TOP Directories for manual submission: 1. viesearch.com 2. somuch.com 3. dmoz.org [pray you will get in] 4. txtlinks.com 5. genuisfind.com 6. thomasnet.com 7. bizhwy.com 8. where2go.com 9. epa.gov 10. getfreelisting.com 11. digabusiness.com 12. a1webdirectory.org 13. theseoking.com 14. usawebsitedirectory.com 15. turnpike.net [trick: enter these urls into Google and add "similar sites" to the end of the search query; "viesearch.com similar sites", you may find some more directories that way] #4 Niche keyword group sites instead of micro niche. I didn't create a "micro niche" in the sense that the site has a list of 10+ keywords that all have enough traffic to create 1 site with an EMD. Instead of going that route, I optimized the site for all of the industry keywords related to the niche and built domain authority. By doing this, you are able to arbitrarily rank on your new content without doing much work as far as backlinking is concerned. #5 Buy some love I bought a couple of links from very high PR sources with branded anchor text pointed at the home page. This is one of the easiest ways to build domain authority, and if you are a good negotiator you really don't have to spend much to get these links. I only purchase links after the site is already getting traffic though, I wouldn't risk it with a brand new site with no content. I really hope this was helpful, ask away if you need any help.
