How Do You Pick Keywords to Rank a Site?

Hello BHWers,

I'm somewhat new to offsite SEO and am in the market of purchasing SEO services and have been providing providers on here.

And every provider asks me for keywords to rank and unfortunately, I don't have a clear answer for them because I'm not sure what my keywords are to rank since my site has so many of them.

Basically, my website is a news website that is accredited with Google News and other news entities like Bing and I have a verified Facebook page for said site as a result.

This year, my DA has been hovering around in between a 51 and 53. I really didn't even know what DA was honestly until I started getting Guest Post offers. Or should I say "sponsored" post offers.

As my site grew, it went from people contacting me about getting their posts on my site for free to me getting monetary offers in the $150+ range at times. That's when I knew that my site was ranked well enough for others to use me for their SEO practices and/or businesses.

I was getting so many "sponsored" post offers that honestly, I don't take free guest posts anymore, and it's become a viable and reliable source of income for me.

So I started investigated and researching for ways to rank my site even higher to give it more authority on the web and that led to me finding out more DA and PageRank. If folks are paying me at least $100+ to put up a post on a site that's ranked 51-53, imagine what they'd pay if I had a site that was ranked 75, 80, or higher.

Not to mention the natural and organic amounts of traffic that I'd receive as well because of this bump.

So now that you have my website's background and reasons for this post, how would one use one of these SEO services advertised on here when my site has so many keywords due to my site covering the news? And I can't narrow it down to just one keyword?

Is there a guide here or elsewhere that someone can recommend to me for me to get a better grasp on how I should tackle this dilemma?

I've been searching the forum but haven't found any posts directly related to how one goes about picking keywords and certain pages to rank.

if you have Ahref you can get your keyword for which keyword your website has rank good in search engine

For news site, Its all about authority and target trending keywords with big searches. I am not expert, but interlinking does work for news site too. Plus you can sometime post article with buyer keywords, not regularly. Rank those articles.

Paid;

Plug your website on Ahrefs or SEMrush. Go with keyword column to see what keywords your website is ranking for on SERP. For this this purpose I will advice going with evergreen keywords your website is ranking for. Going through keywords on page 2 - 3. Pick the evergreen ones and those should be your target keywords for backlinking purpose.

Reason?
Evergreen keywords are searched concurrently on SERP compared to trending keywords that could die to time.

Pick up these keywords then have them submitted to your link builder.

Free; GSC

Have a look at your search console and use the same idea illustrated above. Having a look at your average position for evergreen keywords picking up the little traffic/impression. Fine-tune and finalize your output to be submitted for backlink.

PS: Don't buy PBNs or 1000 in 1 typa links as not to kill the website. I will suggest you work with Niche edit typa link (Less expensive -faster results ) and Guest posting as other alternative.

i would start by looking at your google search console and see what keywords you have the highest impressions. The keywords that you want to concentrate are the high conversion ones which you are not ranked in top 2!!!!!

a good insight into conversion gives you a good understanding of customer intentions. that is what you want to focus on.

lastly, i am not aware of anyone here who has a site with a DA of 75+!!!

I've been looking into investing in this or Moz or SEM Rush. I keep hearing about all 3 of these but don't know which one to choose.

So for certain articles, I should focus on ranking and then just kind of go from there? It's hard, because I have thousands of articles. Would you recommend me trying to rank viral type content?

This is awesome advice! I was actually looking into guest posting since a lot of people contacting me about guest posting on my site, I know it has to work. There was a thread on here that a had a list of guest posting sites. I was going o compile my own list of sites ranked 50 and higher and apply. Hopefully I'll get accepted in at least 20 sites.

Another newb question, what's a "Niche edit Type A link"?

Any service providers on BHW that you'd recommend?

Thanks for the advice. I know a few folks myself, who aren't on BHW that have 70+ ranked sites and they're news-oriented sites as well. I know 2 folks in particular and they're actually the inspiration behind me wanting to improve my authority. Their sites are often times referenced in general convo sometimes. That's how popular they have become within certain circles.

I'm going to have to break my site down tremendously to see how I can rank up but I believe it's possible. But I've been sitting on this 51-53 for a while now.

if you have quality website then buy links to your pbn or webs2.0 so in case u get trashy links then ur healthy website will be alrigh

@withatwist - can you do a test?

pick a niche, go to page 7+ of google search result, pick a page that you are certain is not invovled in any seo activities, then provide a link from your homepage to it, and let us know the serp improvement for the next 2 weeks....... good test to see how powerful your site is. after the test, delete the backlink.

Like others have said I also think ahrefs is one of the best choices out there right now. They have other great tools other than keyword research and they are not that expensive you should check them out

My tools: ahrefs + kwfinder(free trial)
All my kw must:
- Greater than 3 words
- KD <= 20
- Search volume: i don't care too much but: Results click > Results not click.

- Kw finder: KD <= 20.
- Allintitle < 1000 or 500.
- Also check top 10 in google too.

And all you? How about the keyword you select?

This is Gold man! Never thought about actually testing this to see what others see in my site.

Thanks for this advice. I keep hearing about Ahrefs. I actually started using SEMRush, their free plan for right now. The hardest thing is trying to figure out which of these tools to buy since they're all similar.

I haven't used the keyword tool yet but will and try to stage stories around certain keywords.
