Totally new to crypto. I already invest in stock. I just want to try something new. I’m more of a buy and hold. Did some reading and read I need coinbase before I can buy? No totally sure. Can someone guide me to buy my first ether? I also read the minimum to invest to ether is $25. So I would like to start off with a couple hundred first.

The min to buy eth is 1 wei, or minimal parts of a dollar. You can buy more, but there's really no minimum on how much you can invest to get started.
I wouldn’t need a crypto wallet if I’m just buying and holding right?You can invest in ether with the available button to purchase and can use any interest wallet to do this,it isn't a must to have huge investment but it help in getting more roi likewise loss when it splash.

yeah, its better to have your crypto in YOUR wallet, rather than on exchanges wallets.I wouldn’t need a crypto wallet if I’m just buying and holding right?

It is not necessary to buy on coinbase only. You can buy on any other exchange also as per your comfort.
