I found I can login if you click forgot password and do the phone recovery. It texts you a code and logs you in

Alright. Then you can simply uninstall and then reinstall instagram app. This should solve your purpose.

Did you try switching your internet connection in case you are using mobile data, you could try switching to broadband or vice versa?
