How did you learn English?

In Israel, we had nickelodeon streaming in Hebrew at daylight and midnight they would stream in English with Hebrew subtitles
They only streamed Spongebob so I would stay up all night and watch as a little kid and it definitely helped alot in school and now

English is not my native language.
Believe it or not, I learned it mostly by playing videogames in english, especially World of WarCraft back in the early days.
I already knew some basic english from school, but playing all day and interacting with foreign people really helped me.
I'm now able to read books and watch movies in english almost as if they were in my native language.
Whenever I read or listen to something in english, I understand it directly and don't translate it in my mind.
Sometimes I even forget how something is called in my language, but I know the english word for it.

Thank you for all the replies guys I hope this thread will help someone who wants to know how to learn English. Thank you for the tips appreciate that.

by watching videos since i was a little child. and now im speaking with american accent and i feel like im a native english speaker

Basic stuff at highschool (all my lessons were English related things for a year). After that about 12 years of English subbed movies and tv series. And here I am now, able to understand 2x speed Youtube videos without thinking about it. But, I never spoke the language. So, I can write shit and understand them without a problem but I can't speak it.

I'm too old and lazy to practice and fail on speaking, so writing it is.

I suggest the following

  • Buy a dictionary ( These days people just use google)
  • Buy a good English grammar book and learn the basics ( We had Wren and Martin in school)
  • Make reading a daily habit. The more you read the better you get.

When you start reading on a regular basis your English will start improving without you even realizing it.

It will take time but you will get better.

I used to read lots of books in my childhood and teenage. It followed by watching 100s, if not 1000s of Hollywood Movies.

Make a remote friend and communicate via WhatsApp or email but never ever use short forms of words or phrases.
Always force yourself to write the full spelling of words.
Keep noting down the words you don't know and Googling them.

By myself. I think English isn't that difficult, especially compared with other languages.

Just download English courses (free) and watch YouTube videos. You will start learning along the way
