When I check almost all of my competitors, even though their article is focused around one specific keyword, they end up getting more than 100's of related keywords ranked and getting traffic from them. How does this happen? Should I focus and build links around other related keywords or is this a byproduct of optimising the parent keyword? Thanks in advance!

Usually when you're ranked for the main keyword, the other keywords will pick up as well.

I would focus on parent keyword, and later on you can push some other keywords as well.

I would stick with parent keyword anyways.

Thank you so much. Is there a chance to make it work the other way around? Ranking for related non parent keywords first ( Probably easy to rank) and then have the main keyword ranked almost automatically?

I wouldn't do it that way, but you might test it with some articles and see how it's going to perform.

Focus on all kinds of keywords , but target well the main keyword , mostly when the main keyword gets ranked so moreover others too get ranked !

Don't focus on a keyword, instead focus on a topic. An article built around the topic "removing olive oil stains out of clothes", will rank for many keywords you have around this topic like "how to remove olive oil out of clothes", "how do you get out olive stains", "best way to remove olive oil from clothes", "can olive oil stain be removed from fabric", etc.

Try to cover a topic, not a keyword.

when you gain authority and trust from google for parent keywords, related aka semantic keywords also rise.

It's simple: If your competitor has a word called "purchase"
and no other word like order, buy, obtain, take, acquire, shop, etc.
then still google can rank them for these terms. example: your competitor has keyword: Purchase Car, they could also rank for Order Car, Buy Car, Shop Car, etc. by google if they are quite an authority. Don't expect small blogs, new sites getting rank for such things.

Thank you! I'll give it a shot and see.

Thanks for for the detailed explanation. That makes so much sense.

Thank you! So there's no way new blog would get this same effect even if the parent keyword itself is ranked lets at least in the first 10 results?

Thank you for the detailed explanation mate.
