How Can I tell if a niche is profitable?

As the question indicates, I recently been searching for micro niches and i got 2 or 3 candidates to start my first affiliate blog/website
one of the niche's keywords are mostly transactional and low competition and sometimes i get amazon and other website stores raking in the first spots
I need to know if this is a good or a bad sign as i heard in this Forum that when a store like amazon ranks for a keyword it's fairly easy because it's not optimized for the keyword and I can dethrone it just by doing good On-Page SEO and optimize a good article for the keyword,
any thoughts shared is welcomed and appreciated

I think it's a big topic to cover, because some people work for some, while others work for other people.You can help yourself with artificial intelligence by arguing an exact question about which ones are profitable and it will give you a better option, I think.
 
If big stores like Amazon are showing up for your niche's keywords without really trying, there's a chance you can outrank them by focusing on making your content awesome and optimizing it well. It's not a walk in the park, but it's doable.
 
If you are ranking on those niche, then that's a very good niche for you.
 
For keywords and niche research you can decide by comparing competitor's strength vs yours. Like in case of amazon, it is clear that it might not have much keyword optimized content but the worth of their domain shouldn't be ignored too, if your domain is very new then it will be hard to compete even with keyword optimized content. You can filter out some niche in which you have interest and can produce quality content, then you can evaluate their profitability according to -

- Availability, attractiveness of affiliate programs
- Price range of products or services
- Your commissions

As I read and understood, ranking for more specific long tail keywords like "best x for y" would beat the stores right ?
ofc with good on page and off page SEO as much as I can from schema markup to content to website structure and interlinking
what are your thoughts ?

Competing against Amazon is bad decision. If your goal is to monetize with ads then most niches that have huge interests from tier countries are profitable.

Any niche that is directly or indirectly related to someone trying to spend money is profitable. Any niche at all.

It depends. As these days Reddit getting all the fame. Google prioritises Reddit more than any other site. If the search intent of the niche is good and sustaining in the long run. It will be considered as green flag
 
Evaluate demand, competition, monetization opportunities, engagement, keyword research, profit margins, trends, and target audience preferences to determine niche profitability.
 
Any keyword with commercial intent is going to be profitable, for niche site. Plus look for something which people want 12 months a year. Dont go for informative niche when you are building a small niche site.
 
Start with the word buy, best, cheapest, purchase, <item name> reviews,

This type of search intent, they r ready with the credit card

is commercial any different than transactional ? if so what is the main difference and does it make sense to write articles to rank for transactional keywords ? I still have vague vision here since in my mind, a transactional keyword is where the use is looking ready with his credit card and not ready to read and article, pls tell me your thoughts and what i'm thinking wrong here
 
Generally, CPC of that keywords is a good indication.

CPC should be decently high compared to the average of the countries.

Moreover, try checking what sort of landing pages being run on that keywords (Adword) is also a good indication.

Yeah I always look at CPC to see if a keyword/niche is profitable. If people are spending on ads there, it's a good chance there's money to be made. Additionally, I like to use a tool like lowfruits to get a better idea of the difficulty in ranking. If Amazon is there but the other pages ranking are really poorly optimized there's a good chance Amazon is inadvertently ranking and you can beat them or at least rank in top 3.
