You can't really say how long, really depends on the link. How long it has been there, how many other links were linked to it etc. But going up against authority sites like those are hard always, best bet is to pack up your bags and go to another kw

yea i seeDepends. If you don't do anything to your site it would never rank. But if your ranking against one of their pages that has no links to it, and you have lots of strong links you could beat them in 5 months. It depends
thanks for helpIf you're trying to rank for a term that isn't directly targeted by the page you're trying to outrank, or if the page you're trying to outrank is weak, it shouldn't take too long. Stronger pages will take longer. There is no clear cut answer for this, so don't listen to anyone who tries to give you one. Depends how much work you're willing to put in and how quickly you do that work.
brand new website talking about same nicheNot enough info to judge. What keyword. How old is your site. Give us something to base the judgement on
how much money we are talking about ?In a perspective that OP doesn't have a lot of money to spend for an SEO budget then it perfectly fits the mentality of leaving the niche. Yes there are many money making niches out there that hard but rank able, but you need the budget to do so don't you?
