How can I keep my website visitors around longer:

I've been using this killer service called 'Woopra'. It's like google analytics but you can watch what your visitors do real time and that data is held for a year. So I saw my visitor's patterns and noticed that if they look at 2 news articles they stick around but some look at one and bounce.

I have on the sidebar the popular posts of the month and at the bottom related posts(its broken right now.. damn woothemes).

I need some strategies to keep those bastards on site longer.

add some cool videos

Videos, additional pages and content. Asking questions that will force people into discovering the answers.

Use pics/photos.

use more of pics and videos instead of text ... interlink posts...

I find that the use of photos and inclusion of YouTube videos helps to entice people to stay on my webpages longer.

Just put an image that's related to the message of your text, to the left or right of your text. It's a simple start.

If you have long articles, include more images as the reader has to scroll down, and make sure that your content is enjoyable to read as well.

Users only stay if your content is good and it gets noticed quick it's really as simple as that. If they keep bouncing out then re-work your content

Keep on adding unique content and use some free offers like things in between the content to let the users read them for a moment and then move on.

Definitely add more content. If your site is seen as an authority site, they will
stick around longer. One way to do this is doing some serious research about
whatever topic you want to post and make those posts really long like a 1000
words or more.

Videos... pictures of hot chicks / eye-catching pictures... etc.

I have had the same issue. It sounds as if you are running a news type of website, which is what i'm doing as well.

1st - Try not to post any external links. Don't give them an easy way to escape. Make sure if you are referencing a site where you got your information you do it as [source] vs [daily post]. Make it as small as possible.

2. Videos work well, but using a video in my side bar really helped. Then I took a .Jpg of a popular video of the week. Say "George Zimmerman" and placed it so that it looks like it's playable. Then when it's clicked it goes to a page that has that video and like 4 others for the week. People usually hang out there for awhile.

3. Any photo galleries, place on the next page if possible. So if you have four or five photos to show - Show one photo and then below that have "click here to see All Photos". That takes them to another page on your site. Bounce rate goes down, they get to see another set of adsense ads, pages per visit go up, and all of this drives your Google Authority way up.

4.....thinking.......Use that linkedwithin widget. That has helped alot.


5. I am currently experimenting with scribol, which is an view exchange site. They give you like 1.33 views for everyone or something like that. Right now I think I am losing visitor that might click somewhere else so make sure you are tracking if you decide to use something like that.

Yup videos can do the trick. Don't put a Fiverr video where your logo is evolving out of shit or something. Create a interactive video. I have put a video just over 2 minute on my site selling a service last week and man by bounce rate decreased by more than 3% and time spent has increased by around 1 minute (not to say how much my conversion rate has improved). So, videos can do the trick.

But if you are running some blog and not selling a product or video than you can use infographics also in your post. Visitors will stick to them than a regular post.

And I call them clients not the other way.

Why do you want them to stay longer? Do it increase alexa ranking?

Definitely, you should work hard on improving the quality of your content. This is because; success and survival of any website is solely dependent on the quality of contents. In addition, you have to include some of the attractive videos, so that your visitors get easily attracted towards your website.

If you're writing really compelling content they will stick around. Also if you write long contents, try breaking them up into several pages. I've found that to help keep user's on longer. Also instead of just showing related post put a blurb at the bottom that they should also read this specific article because it relates to this article.

ie: If you want to learn more about Nike Shoes, read "How Nike Shoes Saved My Life" because it talks about a crazy way how you can change your life wearing Nike Shoes...

You get my point . . .

So you better make sure to create good content to make them stay for a long period of time.
