Get your content first to be god and edit around it after :) that's my way at the moment, first content then optimizing it.
 
Generally is more difficult to find words that are worth to be developed through SEO techniques that applying the SEO techniques itself. This builds up like a pyramid of ToDo things that must be done, but my advice is that, start from the basics and search the forum for keyword research techniques

What I did from my own perspective: I wrote a few articles about my products that I'm trying to promote. Then I kept writing and adding different articles related to my niche, including matching keywords. It worked. I think the key thing is that you need to write unique texts, don't copy anything from the internet, do everything by yourself.

I think keyword research is the most important. Then research the link profiles of your competitors to get some ideas of building high quality backlinks.
