    Hello pals,

I am having a Wordpress website using the Sahifa theme and I wanted to know how to avoid local duplicate content (content being available using different links on my website).

I saw a guide telling to make category pages noindex but I have some categories pages that I need to be indexed. I was thinking about putting categories noindex and indexing tags and using those tags only on categories that I want indexed. What is your best advice?

You can set just some of the category pages to noindex individually. I am sure that there are plugins that can do this. That's the easiest way to do it.

Yes, the yoast SEO does support this function. For example, index on Category A but noindex on Category B, you can set them when edit the category itself on the dashboard.

    Thanks pal :D

Also let's say I have a categories named Wallpapers and I wanted it to rank (so indexed) and all the posts there to be indexed and ranked, that category is going to have some duplicate content (from posts), is there a better way to avoid the duplication without deindexing the category?

From what I have read from the Internet:

There is no better way to avoid this, just, you better write a block of content on "that category" page to make it unique on search engine's eye, for example, one of your category page URL: www.xxxxxxx.com/wallpaper/ , if your theme is happen to support write an excerpt on below the category title, its awesome!

If your theme does not support this feature (which I think 90% does not lol), you can still edit the theme for support this feature.

Bottom line: on your category URL page, the posts show there MUST BE in excerpt, but no show all, all you know what will happen, all duplicate with post URL pages.

Edit the theme tutorial you can check WP beginner I think, or any youtube video, so for most cases, people just noindex their category URL page, but if your site is serious want to rank that category URL, it may necessary to let it alive, or you may lose a lot of potential traffics, I understand.

Now I am thinking about this: I have keywords that I want to target in pictures and wallpapers and I am thinking to make a category for each even if I am going to upload same pictures on both categories. My question is google going to take that as duplicate? Category name and Url will be different but images going to be the same with same filename and same alt tag. Any idea?

You do not need to noindex those. Just fully determine which are the duplicate content or article, and set the canonical for that page, to point to the primary article that was intended for that particular content or keyword.
The canonical functionality is similar to doing a silent 301 of the duplicate content to the actual content.
It is like telling the search engine that they may be referring to the wrong content - and the canonical link will point them to the right link instead.
You will need to determine which are the duplicate ones, before being able to set all canonical accordingly.

Yeah that's for posts. I have a plugin that sets photo galleries and I thought about doing a page gallery for photos and a page gallery for wallpapers (but both galleries will have same pictures with same filename and alt tags) would google consider these two galleries as duplicate of one another since they offer the same pictures?
