I just heard about this, could someone regester this in my pc without my knowledge and make money off my internet. Could they also do this to many other people? If I catch them can they get in trouble with their I mean my service provider?

I'm sure they could do it without your knowledge but if they have that skillset, I'm pretty sure they direct their expertise away from things like that.

Is there a reason you think that this is happening or is it a bit of paranoia?

Its not like that. The main idea is in that they took your bandwidth and give you money. after that they are using that internet to sell other platforms. The companies need a residential data for their advertisements and they use that proxy for that. Its not dangerous and there are different apps like honeygain will make you earn more

Technically, someone with access to your computer could do this. Like it used to happen with many cryptocurrency miners and certain software that incorporate them hiddenly.

This is somewhat like the famous Hola VPN extension. They proxy your connection, nothing more. In case someone did this (because they gained access somehow, like a trojan horse or something like that) you would not be seriously harmed. At worst, you could feel that your connection is not as fluid as it used to be

They clearly state this:
Experience the unlimited web accessibility possibilities through residential proxies from millions of Honeygain users worldwide
Hola VPN used your connection to set their VPN tunnel through your line and in exchange they let you use others connections for the same purpose (most of the time watching back in the day Netflix USA when Netflix was not distributed worldwide).

This, simply pay you some peanuts in exchange for something that companies are also paying to them, just being an intermediate.

Maybe I can hep you with that.
