Homepage Indexing Issue – Need Help

Hi Everyone,

We've been struggling with a homepage indexing issue for the past two months. Interestingly, other pages on our site are appearing in Google search results without any problems.

Last week, we fixed a Google Rich Results "Rendering" issue, hoping it would resolve the homepage indexing. We've also thoroughly reviewed both on-page and off-page SEO elements, and everything seems to be in good shape.

Despite these efforts, the homepage is still not getting indexed. Has anyone faced a similar issue or have ideas on what else we should investigate? Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

yeah, the page looks great, I don't think there's anything related to the page itself, so the only 2 things that I can think of that might be the issue are...

- no / few internal links pointing to the homepage from other relevant and indexed pages
- the site is in a very tough niche / industry (online billing from what I'm seeing, which is kinda brutal) so it lacks enough trust and authority, therefore you should probably work on improving those 2 by getting more and better links, more and better traffic, more and better brand awareness and branded anchors / mentions.... that sort of things...

Of course, I could be totally off in my recommendations, and I apologize if I'm mistaken. But since nobody bothered answering.... I thought I'd chime in with the little knowledge I have, so feel free to use it, or ignore it, I don't mind

Check for hidden technical blocks (canonical, redirects, noindex, parameter conflicts, or soft-404 signals), as these are the most common reasons a homepage won’t index even when other pages do.

I’ve seen similar issues before. A few things to check:

• Make sure the homepage has no noindex tags and isn’t blocked by robots.txt.
• Verify the canonical points to itself.
• Ensure the homepage returns 200 and isn’t caught in redirects.
• Check internal links and crawl errors in Google Search Console.
• Sometimes, submitting via GSC URL Inspection > Request Indexing helps.

Often it’s a subtle canonical or crawl issue. Hope it gets indexed soon!

when the inner pages index but homepage sits dead, it’s usually a signal issue not “seo”. check if the root URL got soft-blocked by patterns: duplicate variants, parameters, past redirects, weak canonicals. strip extras, fetch it clean, push links directly to root. engines need a single, loud version to trust.

If only your homepage isn’t indexing, something is blocking it. Check for noindex, wrong canonical, or a robots.txt rule. Make sure the page renders fully. Because, JS issues often stop indexing. Add strong internal links to the homepage and get one fresh external link. Most of the cases, fixing these things brings the homepage back into the index.

Sometimes homepage indexing takes longer after fixes I’d keep checking Search Console and maybe resubmit the URL while monitoring crawl stats.

Ensure your sitemap.xml is updated and includes your homepage. Submit the sitemap again to prompt a new crawl.
