People just don't seem to realize that all the private tools suck shit. The web is just too big to scrape for any small company. You need to get be able to get data from someone who is already scraping the web on an industrial level (ie. a proper search engine and not some shitbox like blekko). Finding out new sources of juicy backlinks by spying on the competition just got a whole lot harder.
You are correct as usual. People just love to spend on comforting hype. There are hundreds of thousands to be made from ebooks "how to get the competitor's BLs now that YSE is closed". Until some badass crawler starts gathering data, all the third party tools are going to suck. And I don't see a reason why I should let such a crawler spy on me. Yahoo Site Explorer Closing Down Monday, November 21st
Well its that time that we've been hearing about for the past few years, Yahoo Site Explorer is getting shut down today.
Here's what Yahoo had to say:
Essentially you won't be able to check your backlinks, pages indexed, or other vital information using Yahoo's free Site Explorer.
That means there are only paid solutions available like Majestic SEO and SEOMoz.
What are you guys gonna use now that Yahoo Site Explorer is getting shut down?
