Holy Crap!! Yahoo Site Explorer Shutting Down Today

Damn, that sucks. I use both Yahoo Site Explorer and Open Site Explorer. Guess I'll just be using the latter now.

There's no rate limiting so I'm scraping the absolute crap out of it right now. Go hard gentlemen.

google webmasters tools display all your indexed backlinks
this screenshot is consistent with data from YSE.

see? no big deal.

People just don't seem to realize that all the private tools suck shit. The web is just too big to scrape for any small company. You need to get be able to get data from someone who is already scraping the web on an industrial level (ie. a proper search engine and not some shitbox like blekko). Finding out new sources of juicy backlinks by spying on the competition just got a whole lot harder.

Ditto

Its gonna be a whole lot harder now..this sucks balls.

Gone are the days when you could just load 1000's of websites in scrapebox and scrape the hell out of their backlinks and then extract blog links, forum links and what not :(

So how will tools like scrapebox and seopowersuite work?

Today it's a sad day. Google only shows very few of the backlinks and majestic seo is good but it doesn't have as many backlinks as Yahoo :(

Oh noh! I love Yahoo site explorer because its free and give more links than the other backlink checkers..

Nothing new to be honest. Yahoo site explorer wasn't working properly anymore for weeks now. They also announced that they're going to shut it down.
And yeah forget spyglass, it was using the yahoo site explorer too.

You are correct as usual. People just love to spend on comforting hype. There are hundreds of thousands to be made from ebooks "how to get the competitor's BLs now that YSE is closed". Until some badass crawler starts gathering data, all the third party tools are going to suck. And I don't see a reason why I should let such a crawler spy on me. (B and G enjoy a different status, they are useful to a webmaster).

But the whole deal is not as tragic. Righ now I am forced to buy cheap, crappy links simply to water down the YSE results for my sites in order to prevent competitors from finding my high PR backlinks. Which are no more than 15-20 (PR6 and above) per domain. Enough to get on top of an easy to medium niche.

Scrapebox will work just the same as it always has... you just won't be able to check backlinks, which sucks. I loved my toolbar that displayed all the backlinks of a site, it gives very useful information and not only for IM. Also to detect scams and stuff like that. I hope we don't have to wait too long until something equally good comes along.

Yahoo Site Explorer Closing Down Monday, November 21st

Well its that time that we've been hearing about for the past few years, Yahoo Site Explorer is getting shut down today.

Here's what Yahoo had to say:

Essentially you won't be able to check your backlinks, pages indexed, or other vital information using Yahoo's free Site Explorer.

That means there are only paid solutions available like Majestic SEO and SEOMoz.

What are you guys gonna use now that Yahoo Site Explorer is getting shut down?

I dont think this will effect our work as we still can track backlinks!!! any ideas??

i just checked out majesticseo for one of my sites and it totally sucks compared to YSE despite being a paid tool.. :(

At least now I learned a lesson to never take anything for granted and rape every opportunity while you can :P haha you never know when it could end.
