Yahoo Site Explorer Closing Down Monday, November 21st

Well its that time that we've been hearing about for the past few years, Yahoo Site Explorer is getting shut down today.

Here's what Yahoo had to say:

With the completion of algorithmic transition to Bing, Yahoo! Search has merged Site Explorer into Bing Webmaster Tools. Webmasters should now be using the Bing Webmaster Tools to ensure that their websites continue to get high quality organic search traffic from Bing and Yahoo!. Site Explorer services will not be available from November 21, 2011.

Essentially you won't be able to check your backlinks, pages indexed, or other vital information using Yahoo's free Site Explorer.

That means there are only paid solutions available like Majestic SEO and SEOMoz.

What are you guys gonna use now that Yahoo Site Explorer is getting shut down?

That really sucks. I did notice that they were becoming less and less efficient at picking up new links...

I also noticed the same thing, in the past few months Yahoo was really lagging on picking up links.

I'd been putting off actively using Majestic simply because of the ease of use with YSE. I'm hoping that many of my favorite tools will support MajesticSEO somehow...

use one of the modules in seo powersuite.

Takes a little longer, but you still get the results you need

I am scraping the pharma, casino and other spammy results like crazy and crying. RIP YSE, you will be sadly missed. :(

You can get a lot out of the free version of Majestic SEO. I like how it's organized better than YSE but this truly blows especially when it comes to tools.

Well I guess its full blown MS from here on out. I wonder when will MS remove YSE from their interface?

sounds like a season of building links blindly since google is not showing many of my backlinks lol

I always check for backlinks with google.
in the search query put:
Code:
"your-site.com" -site:your-site.com

It has been many years google has bothered to update us with the full range of backlinks they see. Infact most of my sites google shows less than 1/100th of the backlinks YSE sees.

lol. A smart marketer would be creating a solution for all you hopeless souls. these are just tools. IM will survive without them.

SEOmoz is good, sure you have to pay but if you have a lot of competitive analysis to do then it's well worth it. Having some value attached to each link is so much more useful than the list you get from YSE.

You can get a free trial for a month as well so just make a list of all the sites you want to uncover, hit it hard for a month and then you will have some great lists to use.

Plus you get a load of other tools from SEOmoz that are quite useful.

People just don't seem to realize that all the private tools suck shit. The web is just too big to scrape for any small company. You need to get be able to get data from someone who is already scraping the web on an industrial level (ie. a proper search engine and not some shitbox like blekko). Finding out new sources of juicy backlinks by spying on the competition just got a whole lot harder.

you could get much detail with free Majestic SEO you only have to pay for much in-depth detail.
