I have an ecommerce site, ranks page 1 in google for a very competitive keyword. I update it whenever I add new products, or just add or change some text around to try and keep it fresh. I ping my backlinks, blog posts etc. My google cache is usally around 2 weeks old, sometimes older and no matter what I try I can't seem to get google to refresh me quicker.
My main competitor doesn't have this problem. His cache is never more than 1 day old. I don't see any significant change in his site on a daily basis.
What gives? I have done a backlink check on him and don't see anything obvious as to why he has googlebot drooling over him! Don't get me wrong - I'm not hung up about it - more curious. I do get a bit frustrated when I do site changes such as title tags and H1 tags etc and am still waiting over a fortnight for these to kick in.
Is it just likely he has a high performing blog somewhere? And are there any tricks to get google refreshing me quicker? Yeah - google loves fresh content - I know, just doesn't seem to matter. I throw rss feeds out, I social bookmark, I throw links on Identica and ping them - nothing seems to get that feckin bot to me quicker.
I think its probably just a case of not liking a competitor doing something better, and not knowing how they do it! Any suggestions?
