Help Of A Genius Required With WiFi proxy

Hi guys,

I want your help with a problem on wifi proxy. My wifi uses a WEP encryption. There is a password required to connect the computer and a proxy is also set up which will ask you username and password when you try to connect to internet.

Here is the problem. I have the key, the username and the password and I get internet when I use a browser. But whenever I use a desktop program like Traffic Travis or Tweet Deck, even when I enter the proxy, password and username, I can't connect to internet. So can you help me figure out how I can use these desktop programs? Is it possible to have a browser useragent for these desktop softwares or is there any other solution? Your help is appreciated.

I don't know about the programs you mentioned but most of my SEO softwares have an option to allow the program run through a proxy you specify, try this one out maybe it helps and let me know ;)

But heres my guess.

You setup a proxy on another computer and you want to connect to it via proxy, remotely?
I'm also assuming you've setup some type of proxy on your other computer, maybe a squid proxy? or sock5? In any case check your firewall / MS firewall.


I'm assuming this question is like one of tricky questions they used to throw at you in gradeschool.
Jim has 4 apples, Kate has 7 apples, Alfred has 2 apples. If you add Kates apples with 1 more apple and then add Alfreds apples, how many apples does Jim have?
 
Can skype or anything else other than your browser connect to the internet?
 
The proxy is not created by me. It is created by the institution where I am using the wifi. It uses the proxy and a username password combination so that no one from the outside can use it.

Only browsers can connect to the internet. If I use any other software, even skype, it doesn't work. Is there any way to disguise other softwares as normal browsers?
 
In that case the proxy is configured to only allow http traffic. So you need something that wraps other types of protocols in 'http' packets. These somethings are called Http tunnels, here's one:
