Hello BHW Community,

I’m currently planning to develop a web tool for Pinterest research and analytics, similar to what tools like https://pinclicks.com/ or https://pinsearch.co offer. However, I’ve hit a major roadblock: the data source.

These tools seem to provide advanced features like:

  • Keyword research with search volumes
  • Top-ranked pin annotations
  • Quick, actionable insights directly from Pinterest data
I’ve done some digging and came across Pinterest APIs (see attached screenshot), but unfortunately, these APIs—both official (v5) and others—do not seem to provide the exact data I need for the features above.

My Questions:

  1. Keyword Search with Volumes: How are tools like PinClicks and PinSearch retrieving accurate search volumes for Pinterest keywords? Is there any public API or reliable method to gather this data?
  2. Ranked Pin Annotations: These tools quickly identify and display top-ranked pins with detailed annotations. What would be the best approach to replicate this functionality? Is it based on scraping, private APIs, or some other source?
If anyone has experience building similar tools or knows of a reliable public API, private API, or any workaround method, I’d greatly appreciate your guidance. I’m open to exploring creative or unconventional approaches.

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide!

Looking forward to learning from your expertise.

I think they get the data for search volume from "Pinterest Ideas." Check this Pinterest URL; you will see the search volume mentioned below the keyword title. For annotations, you will need to visit the pin URL in incognito mode without login, you will see them listed under the Pin description.

Thanks for your comment. I know that Pinterest is currently showing annotations search volume. Do you really think they are scraping the search volumes from the annotations page?

There is another problem: suppose a user searches for "Christmas home decor ideas," then Pinterest shows this auto-suggestion: "Christmas home decor ideas living room." How do they access this annotations page, considering that every annotations link has a unique number, such as: https://www.pinterest.com/ideas/small-business-captions/{UNIQUE_ID}927984934385/?

Any ideas about this?
