I think my twitter account for my band is being attacked with many fake followers and and likes from what looks like middle eastern and russian profiles. I have a band and set up social media accounts for it. Overnight i got almost 3000 followers and likes on twitter. I obviously thought this was too good to be true but i couldn't believe it untill i checked for myself and it turned out that most profiles are middle eastern or russian and empty(so i assumed they're fake). I'm not an expert in SEO but i have been in it for around a year or two however, I'm only used to dealing with SEO on google but when it comes to social media, i dont know anything. How can i defend myself from such an attack? And do social media websites have their bots programmed to detect these kinds of attacks? If this continues am i risking being taken down by twitter? And will it affect seo in other social media platforms like instagram? I've gathered almost 200 real followers but now they're lost in the thousands of fake ones.

That's barely an attack. Those are bots following you. You can safely ignore them.
Most likely they'll drop in a couple of weeks.

I'm not all that smart when it comes to the socials, but I would contact support immediately with your concerns. At least if you get suspended you can appeal and show that you were proactively trying to address it. As long as your account is clean other than the "attack", you might be ok. Maybe the attack is just someone experimenting with a bot to see what will get through and what will get the account banned. It may be totally random, some 13 yr old kid screwing round. Or maybe it's a rival, who knows. I'm sure others here may have some ideas too.

I've gotten almost 3k followers overnight. I know about the fake accounts that follow you on their own but those hardly ammount to anything close to 3k in that short span of time. The only conclusion i got from this is that i'm being attacked.

Edit: I just saw that i forgot to mention that in my original post so i apologize.

Depending on your current follower number 3k might be a lot. This drastically reduces your engagement rate as these bots might not click, like and retweet all your posts.
If you have a lower engagement rate your tweets aren't ranked as good. From my experience Twitter will never suspend your account because of this. Probably only the bots that followed you will eventually be banned.

I don't have exact info on this, hopefully a more experienced user can correct me if I am wrong: By blocking the accounts you can remove their follow, likes and retweets.

You can't defend yourself against this, unless you set your account to private. As it was mentioned above, these bot followers might drop with time or you can block them, but it will take some time manually.

You don't need to worry about this. Twitter will handle it. You could speed it up if you email Twitter though, maybe they'll take notice and check the accounts of the new followers.
